Natural Resources and Environment Ministry hosted prevention of shoreline erosion seminar

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment hosted a seminar on the prevention of shoreline erosion, with an aim to solve shoreline erosion in Thailand.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Kasem Sanitwong Na Ayudhaya said coastal erosion is a major problem in Thailand as it has affected communities along the coastal areas and economic development in 23 provinces. He said the erosion and the economic development together have deteriorated the coastal environment and beaches. The erosion in the northern Gulf of Thailand from Bang Pakong River to Mae Klong River covers Bangkok, Chachoengsao, Samut Prakan, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon, and these areas receive the most impact, in addition to the areas in the western and eastern parts of the Thai Gulf and the Andaman Sea.

As a result, the Natural Resources and Environment has foreseen this problem and organized a seminar to tackle it. At the seminar, participants brainstormed for ideas and ways to prevent and solve shoreline erosion effectively. Participants also discussed the strategies and plans to development coastal areas in a sustainable manner.

Glad to see That Thailand is starting to address this problem. Having experience in coastal zone management and planning there are some serious problems here. It is going to be especially important in that now you are seeing much increased development in many of Thailands coastal areas.

I wonder if piling politicians along the coastline would prevent the erosion?

Horizontal, of course. :o
