English speaking GP in BKK

Featured Replies

I need an English speaking GP doctor in bkk to renew prescriptions and minor things. I do not want to go to an international hospital. Any suggestions how I can locate an English speaking GP?

Go to whatever hospital you want and ask to see an English speaking doctor.  I use the BDMS chain and they provide an interpreter if the doctor is not comfortable speaking English.

You need an English speaking doctor, go to any doctor in Thailand they all speak English.

Anybody who tells you otherwise is talking nonsense, some doctors are uncomfortable speaking English, but they can speak/ understand English.

The English speaking part of this is nto a problem. The "GP" part is. Thailand does not really have GPs as you would be used to them. Those Thai doctors who do not have a specialty  have a much, much morel limited scope of practice than a Western GP. They also have the least English skills. I doubt you will find a Thai GP who fits your needs.

Not sure what your definition of an "international" hospital includes (they all seem to want to call themselves that!) but there is an American GP at Mission Hospital

And here is a British GP who has her own clinic, probably the closest thing you will find to the sort of GP practice you may be used to

Re renewing prescriptions, may not be necessary - most drugs are over the counter here and do nto require a script. The few that do (mainly narcotics, tranquilizers etc) have to be gotten from a hospital pharmacy so you would need to see a doctor at a hospital for those. BP medications, heart medications, antibiotics and the like are all sold without prescription in Thailand (though of course it is wise to review the meds you are on periodically with a doctor).

Thanks for the advice.
