Thailand resumes flights, ferry services as tropical storm slows

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand resumed flights on Saturday to its southern provinces, as the first tropical storm in 30 years slowed and headed into the Andaman Sea, leaving behind a trail of homes damaged by fallen trees or blown-off roofs, and disrupted power networks.

Layan lockout: Public access denied amid Supreme Court wrangle for B10bn beachfront land

PHUKET: MaAnn Samran, Chief of the Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) is advising people to keep clear and not enter any gates installed at properties along the Layan beachfront while the Supreme Court hears an appeal by five people claiming to own the land in question.

TOKYO (Reuters) - The owner of a Japanese sushi restaurant chain on Saturday set a record by paying more than $3 million for a bluefin tuna in the year's first auction at Tokyo's new fish market, exceeding his own record price of 2013.

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Argentine soccer great Diego Maradona was released from hospital after being admitted earlier on Friday with internal bleeding in the stomach which was discovered during routine examinations, his daughter Dalma said.

PHUKET: A pickup truck loaded with tiles rolled some 40 metres backwards down a side street off Kata Hill this morning after the brakes failed to hold the heavily laden pickup on the steep slope, according to the 25-year-old driver.

Phuket boats clear to leave port as Pabuk passes

PHUKET: Phuket Marine Office Acting Director Wiwat Chitchertwong has confirmed that the ban on boats from leaving shore for safety reasons due to the weather fallout from tropical storm Pabuk will be lifted, effective midnight tonight.
