From Thursday to Saturday, military tanks and heavy weapons will be seen on the streets of Bangkok as preparations are made to mark Children’s Day, Colonel Sirichan Nga-thong, deputy spokesperson for the National Council for Peace and Order, said on Wednesday.

Armoured vehicles, tanks and artillery will be moved from military bases in nearby provinces to the two military sites in Bangkok where Children’s Day events will be held on Saturday.

Military aircraft will make an appearance on Thursday morning, as they are moved from Lop Buri to the 2nd Cavalry Division (King’s Guard) at Sanam Pao area in Bangkok's Phya Thai district, Sirichan said.

Military tanks and armoured vehicles will then follow on Friday morning, heading from military bases in Bangkok, Prachin Buri and Sara Buri to the 2nd Cavalry Division and the Royal Thai Armed Forces headquarters on Chaeng Wattana Road, Sirichan said. The route used for moving the military vehicles and weapons on both days will cover Vibhavadi-Rangsit, Phaholyothin, Taharn, Pradipat and Tiwanond roads, she said.

Once the Children’s Day events are completed on Saturday after 5pm, the artillery and vehicles will return to respective military bases using the same route, Sirichan said.

Apologising for the inconvenience, she said other provinces may see similar military vehicles and artillery being transported.

Great plan! Let the kids know early on who the true master of this country is so they won't nurture strange ideas later in their lives.

  • Now I'm starting to understand why so many Thai's have guns, it stems from Childrens Day!

  • Bloody pathetic. I despair!

Absolutely, bloody pathetic! All that money spent on kit, Generals galore, the brave defenders of the nation, and the best they can do is a 1951 vintage M41 "Walker Bulldog"!

I despair - a 60 year old panzer!

Hello children, can you spell totalitarian?

No? We can't either, so we call it "peace and order"!

This is so bizarre I do not know what to say.

Have a nice children's day kids.

BANG!

By the time these kids are of job age there probably won't be any jobs left unautomated - self serve, driverless vehicles, remote control planes, drone delivery, robot waiters, automated factories and so on. The only things they'll be left with is to be gun fodder for the troubles in the south, a farmer or born lucky enough that daddy is rich enough and corrupt enough to pay for a night out on Thong Lor.

Ingrained and subtle nationalism.

Every day is children's day.

Peace and order and a show of tanks...makes sense.

Dresscode: same camouflage as in pre school?

As a kid I used to love going to the IMperial War Museum in London. I suppose this could be seen as similar!

show of power? Show of intimidation by incompotent, scared little pig fkrz!.

There is enough to be cynical about with the current regime but Children’s Day is NOT one of them.  A). Military displays are not new or unique to this government.  The same approach has been repeated in the past under other governments. B) military displays are not the only events available to take the children to. C) I remember as a kid marveling at the Thunderbirds or Blue Angel aerial displays.  Most advanced countries have similar displays of military capabilities.  I hardly think these displays turn children into gun toting murderers or right wing fascists

So no free entries to Zoo's Museums Bouncy Castles cheaper weekends for families in Hotels and Seaside Resorts. Instead we bring the Military Power out to show Children. Yep that a sensible move!

And sometimes not so subtle. It can start at kindergarten age. Here the kinder kids are dressed in combat gear and learning how to throw hand grenades. Presumably this is in the junta designed school teaching curriculum.
