Daily News reported that the Bangkok Metropolitan Association were warning residents in the capital about the possibility of contracting three diseases related to mosquitoes.

The diseases are dengue fever, the Zika virus and the Chikungunya virus that is associated with fever and joint pain.

Unseasonal weather with accompanying rain has made conditions ideal for mozzies.

Deputy governor Thaweesak Lertpraphan said that out of 80,650 cases of dengue fever some 8,345 had occurred in Bangkok. (Daily News did not report what time frame these figures referred to).

Areas of the city most at risk from dengue are Din Daeng, Beung Kum, Bang Na and Lat Prao.

There had been 129 cases of Zika Virus in the capital out of 573 nationwide. Areas most hit were Bangkapi and Taling Chan.

Zika often has no symptoms but has been known to cause death. It is spread by mosquito bites.

Chikungunya cases had been 2,383 nationwide with 104 in Bangkok principally in the Jom Thong, Prawet and Thonburi areas.

Residents were advised to protect themselves with practical measures. People with existing health condition were advised to take special care.

Measures such as wearing appropriate clothing, lighting mosquito coils, wearing repellent and spraying have been advised.

Habitats where the mosquitoes breed should be noted. Thaweesak suggested a three pronged plan in tidying up houses, making sure there was no trash lying about and disposing of standing water would all help.

Water in vases made for offerings should be changed weekly, he noted.

People with symptoms should seek medical help.

The Infectious Diseases Department can be contacted on 02 203 2892-3 for assistance.

Why dont recommend everyone to KILL mosquitos when they have the chance? Every time a mosquito bite you, you will help making houndreds of new mosquito babies. I notice that in many mc. donalds and burger king they always have a lot of mosquitos inside to bite you. I never seen any thai care about the mosquito problem at all. The staff never kills any mosquito. The mosquitos that bites you come from less than 200 meter away. Just like the local stray dogs. The dogs are just more easy to spot and usually dont bite. If you want to get rid of mosquitos or stray dogs it can be done. If you kill the stray dogs or dont feed them there will be no stray dogs to bite you. Just think about mosquitos that way. Just kill the fuc..... mosquitos! Look at mosquitos as they are a problem. They are!
