Brake failure again! Trailer spews backhoe onto Friendship Highway in Nong Khai

Thailand is fast becoming the hub of a new road phenomena: Brake failure. 

 

Police called to an accident in Nong Khai found a trailer half on its side and a backhoe sprawled across Friendship Highway. 

 

Driver Weeraphan Noojan, 40, from Bung Kan province said he was transporting the backhoe in the Nong Khai area when he approached a bend onto the highway. 

 

"The brakes just didn't work," he said. "They must have broken and caused me to lose control of my vehicle".

 

Sanook reported that it was lucky that no other vehicles were involved and there were no serious injuries. 

 

Weeraphan just got a small bump on the head. 

 

Thaivisa notes that many accidents in recent months have been blamed on brake failure with drivers using it as the excuse of choice.

From the picture it looks like the driver was going a bit too fast on the bend.

Seems to be a rather inadequate trailer for such a large shovel. And the great bird's-eye-view picture shows a conspicuous absence of any chains, rigging or tie-downs. No wonder it toppled off as he sped around the corner.

Brake failure, bull... t, just another idiot who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a truck, obviously no chains have been used to secure the machine, if the cops believe this brake failure bull... t there no better than the idiot steering the truck.

in the states (dont know about elsewhere) a professional truck driver is supposed to do a 'pre-trip' inspection which includes assuring that their brakes are functional.  driver is RESPONSIBLE for the safe operation of their vehicle. maybe someday that might become a legal requirement here.

Absolutely.

A normal height truck bed.

AND: it's the norm!

Very few professional companies have proper flat-bed trailers.

Such a rare sight.

 

In a civilized country one would not drive far with such a load before being stopped.

chains, rigging, tie-downs etc. wouldn't have made one iota of difference to this event - other than maybe keeping the loader attached to the trailer as it roller over.

Saying no chains etc. is equivalent to claiming brake failure.

Maybe if they were charged with Dangerous driving first and had to prove themselves it was brake failure second with engineering report, the excuse of choice might broaden !

Way too small of a truck for an excavator of that size, seems to be pretty common here. It's good to see that the fellow didn't kill someone though.

It's actually an Excavator, about 4 x heavier than a backhoe...Karma is a bitch, now he and his boss are going to have to pay to clean up the mess...better than a fine!!  ????????????
