Can someone tell me what's the point of doing something like this? Couldn't he just enter Thailand the normal way and actually pay less too?

Obviously not, otherwise he would have done it the normal way.

The agent probably told him the Poipet/Aranya entry point would deny-entry if he had spent much of any time in Thailand recently - which is true.  Another possibility is that he already had 2 visa-exempt entries by-land this calendar-year.

If he was blacklisted or "wanted," he would not have tried to exit legally, and gotten caught doing so.   There could be more to it - but based on the story as printed, that would fit.  If he didn't have 2 visa-exempt entries already, he could have just traveled to Ban Laem and entered w/o an issue.  Ignorance plus risk-taking is a bad combination.

I'm surprised any western foreigner would want to sneak into Thailand.  Thailand isn't a great destination for westerners anymore.  The current Thai government does not want western retirees living in Thailand.  Wake up you feather merchants, the party is over.

Which one is the Canadian?  Why is no one pointing?  Very confusing.

See?  See?  Sneaky Canadians, same as the sneaky Mexicans, shamelessly violating international borders!  Someone forward this news to the president of the US.

New slogan: build the wall, Canadians are tall!

I can see where DT could expand on this, telling the story of David and Goliath but swapping in Paul Bunyan as an illegal immigrant from Canada and David a North Dakota farm boy.

[just a little bit of intra-North America humor]

If you are stooping to this guy's level, then you should just be up-front with yourself and admit it hasn't worked out here in Thailand and go some place else. At his age, this is a pretty messy MO and it won't fly and you won't get away with it these days ... just bail man.

He'll get free accommodation with meals included for a year or two,  courtesy of the Corrections Department, and then have the opportunity to stay in Thailand at the Immigration Detention Centre for as long as he chooses (the rest of his life?), courtesy of the Royal Thai Police. IDC makes prison look like a 5-star hotel!

As we only know he had no stamp in his passport , we dont know how long he has been here (maybe 20 years) or why he is here it doesnt really matter it is very clear to everyone he is here illegally so YES lock him up and now deport him it is people like him and all the other morons  that try to bend the rules in the kingdon that make it hard for those of us that do follow the rules and make the need for stricter laws about foreigners coming to this country

He's ruining it for everyone!!!   now nobody from Canada will come, as he disgraced a country.  i hear this from old people.  nobody cares, really.  nobody will lose sleep over this guy, read his name, or care.  OK, maybe I learned not to try to sneak in and pay 5000 baht and make up a crazy story.

hope he has insurance, 800k in his account, and it looks like he was working....so i better see a work permit and he better check in with me every three months and maybe start exercising.
