Daily News reported an upbeat story quoting the chief at Suvanabhumi airport as saying that the Chinese were flooding back into Thailand helping to break new records at Bangkok's principal airport.

He said that Thailand had clearly addressed the concerns of the Chinese about safety in Thailand.

For the first time ever more than 200,000 people have passed through the airport each and every day this year.

The average since December 20th was 215,000 per day.

This compared to 180,000 for the same period last year, revealed airport chief Sutheerawat Suwannawat.

Daily News joyously bandied about the English terms of "New High" and "Comeback" transliterated into the Thai language.

Sutheerawat said that Thailand had been successful in addressing Chinese fears that Thailand was safe.

Though he conceded that better exchange rates for the Yuan were also fueling the good news.

He gave evidence that 10,000 more Chinese were coming each day compared to December.

Work will begin on on Thursday adding 23 new immigration booths to the airport.

Some 2.63 million passengers are expected visit Thailand at Chinese New Year which begins next week.

Well of course. If you say it, so it must be.

that may be correct, for people,  since Chinese new year is coming Feb 5, but that does not show the increase on income, Chinese average stay per city is 2 nights, what can they see in 2 nights and how much can they spend in the local business other than 7-11.... pocket change

Never mind the quality, feel the width.

Glad he is not my bank manager.
Thai logic that CNY 1 in June 2018 bought THB 5.00 , now it buys THB 4.65. In most countries that would be a worse rate, but far be it from me to make unhelpful statements.
Gambay ( Cheers ) doubles all round !!

Stock up on books, beer, snacks etc and stay indoors until they leave.

Why? I see hordes of Chinese tourists near where I live in Bangkok, and haven't seen any problems with any of them. Aside from the hundreds of tour buses that clog the roads, I don't have any problem with the Chinese "invasion." Then again, I don't stay in hotels where they stay, don't eat at restaurants where they eat, rarely visit tourist sites anymore and avoid malls as much as possible.

so in other words you don't go out and about,  because if (for any reason) you do,  there's no way you will not be affected by their presence, they are out there on the streets thus directly or indirectly affecting

I don't believe a word of it. Not one word. I suspect the 'celebrations' for the return of the Chinese tourists is both premature and wishful thinking. There are just too many reasons why the Chinese will look further afield. Except the non-wealthy Chinese, they might still come, in which case the Thai obsession with 'quality tourism' will mean disappointment.

that's your right but it doesn't mean that's not true... people living here are affected directly or indirectly (positively or negatively) by all the tourists coming here, that's a fact and it doesn't mean that's bad or that's good it's just a FACT

some, mostly the small minds,  have a (very) difficult time accepting other people opinion's and their negativity doesn't allow them to live a health life, they have a miserable life
