Prosecutors subpoena Trump inaugural committee for documents

NEW YORK (Reuters) - President Donald Trump's inaugural committee said it had received a subpoena on Monday for documents from the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's Office, which is investigating the group.

"We have just received a subpoena for documents. While we are still reviewing the subpoena, it is our intention to cooperate with the inquiry," a spokesperson for the committee said in a statement.

The subpoena requests documents related to the committee's donors and spending, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times reported.

In December, the Journal reported that federal prosecutors were investigating whether the inaugural committee misspent some of the record $107 million it had raised from donors.

The investigation is examining whether some of the committee's donors gave money in exchange for policy concessions, influencing administration positions or access to the incoming administration, the Journal reported.

Prosecutors also showed interest in whether any foreigners illegally donated to the committee, the New York Times reported. Federal law prohibits foreign contributions to inaugural funds.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan declined to comment to Reuters.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Although campaign finance laws restrict the size of campaign contributions, inaugurations can accept unlimited donations, including from corporations. The amount raised by Trump's inaugural committee, chaired by real estate developer and investor Thomas Barrack, was the largest in history, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

SDNY - Investigating State level crimes that the President cannot pardon.

Now knocking at the door of Trump and his family, reportedly with along list of allegations of easily proven money related crimes.

I’m loving it, and I suspect Preet Bharara is too.

Illiberals get your denial glasses on, the truth will (despite Individual-1’s best efforts) out!

That wall is a coming Donald it’s in Leavenworth they will leave the light on for you!!!

An SDNY investigation has always been more of a real threat to Trump, his family and his businesses, than Mueller ever was.

He’s going to wish he’d stuck to his TV shows, by the time SDNY are done with him, he and his family are going to be penniless ex convicts.

Ex-convicts with a reality show.  The kids may be out but The Patriarch lives in bondage.  Some people will have their fantasy fulfilled by seeing him in an orange jumpsuit.  Unfortunately for the more extreme types, they probably will not see him hung in the (rumored) style of Mussolini.  But you never know.

There is a lot of $$$ from the inauguration fund unaccounted for.  Some reporters/researchers noticed this some time ago, 8 or nine figures.  Apparently someone in law enforcement is taking an interest.  Also an awful lot of Russians in attendance, bearing generous donations.  Like the first scene in the first Godfather movie, all come to show respect on his fortuitous day.

But of course, just to chafe DT's hide, every time the inauguration is mentioned, it should be noted how poorly attended it was.  :cheesy:

Would taste better if they also went after Democrats and Republicans with the same zeal.

Lesson to be learned - anyone or anything using democrat or democracy in their title usually wants to apply the law to others rather than themselves!

Wondering if these continued Witch Hunts will continue until Trump's son Baron reaches the age of maturity when another Trump pogrom is started?

Show me the man and I'll show you the crime...

So you didn't consider all the investigations of Benghazi etc. to be going after the Democrats with zeal? And despite the many investigations and millions spent on them, there wasn't a single indictment! Perhaps it was just a great big nothing-burger?

Are you suggesting criminality is embedded in the Trump genome?

Of course it is not, Barron can choose not to follow his father’s criminality.

Any allegations have to be proven in a court of law.

Amen to that.  Just about everything Trump has ever been involved with is under investigation.  Would you believe the guy currently has 17 active investigations against him?  Two or three and we'd have to conclude the guy's a criminal.  But 17?  And Trump supporters ignore it all.  Whatever.  Trump and family needs to be in jail and his criminal enterprise shut down.

And if you want to see the gross hypocrisy that is Trump, you'd only need to look at the latest upcoming investigation.  Trump is constantly attacking illegals and demonizing them and suggesting that they steal American jobs.  Yet....

[Sen. Bob Menendez (D) on Monday requested an investigation into the hiring of undocumented immigrants at President Trump's golf clubs, including one in Menendez's home state of New Jersey.

Dozens of undocumented immigrants have been fired from Trump properties in recent months following reports of the Trump Organization hiring people without proper legal status.]

I mean, what the freak.

The investigation is examining whether some of the committee's donors gave money in exchange for policy concessions, influencing administration positions or access to the incoming administration. ,,,,,, Will they be have a chat with the Clintons about the clinton foundation and all the lobby firms in DC.?

Do you really think 7 Benghazi investigations was enough? I know the Republicans didn't. They swore that if Hillary Clinton became President, they'd be launching more.

Well, as she has not been elected, all that remains quite hypothetical. In the case of Trump, it may be possible to check if they got something in exchange for their funding.

Hey Donald you can’t skim like one of your failed casinos it’s kinda like money laundering for the Russian federation it’s illegal as hell fed and state you are in deep deep you know what!oh there is a real good chance you and your older kids will get there own private wall

Perhaps the prosecutorial interest -- apart from the fact that everyone connected with Trump and Trump himself have clear and blatant disregard for any laws that would hinder their worst instincts -- has something to do with the following:

Another four years of Benghazi hearings!  The GOP might make a comeback in 2028, they can reopen the investigation.  There will be fresh material, too: here is a pic of her in Benghazi last week.

But what about the US military, intelligence ops, etc who have died overseas since January 2017?  Why are the rabid GOP inquisitors not using these incidents for their self-righteous posturing?

I read somewhere that there are 17 investigations ongoing regarding Trump, his family and business.  I guess nobody took his threat to leave his family alone because it looks like they are in the thick of it as well.  This is going to be good ????

The House Intelligence Committee is preparing to send Mueller formal copies of all testimony given under oath to the House’s ‘Russian Interference’ investigation.

Mueller already has informal records, he needs the ‘formal official’ records to place indictments before the courts.

Devin Nunes is no longer in a position to run distraction missions for Trump with testimony given to the committee and Trey Gowdy has run to hide in the bushes.

Confidential Memo: Company of Trump Inaugural Chair Sought to Profit From Connections to Administration, Foreigners

"The investment firm founded by the chairman of Donald Trump’s inaugural committee, Tom Barrack, developed a plan to profit off its connections to the incoming administration and foreign dignitaries, according to a confidential memo obtained by WNYC and ProPublica.

“The key is to strategically cultivate domestic and international relations while avoiding any appearance of lobbying,” the memo says. Colony, which primarily invests in real estate, sought to capitalize on its access to the White House to get an early lead on infrastructure investments and to attract assets from potential investors."

Ask Fatty Arbuckle how easy it is to "rig" the American "justice" system.

The Clinton Foundation is under investigation, as is the Trump Foundation.  Happy?

As to investigation lobby firms, I'd rather see investigations of Trump's appointment of lobbyists to government positions that present a clear conflict of interest.

That may be a bit tricky. He died 86 years ago.

I know that. My point was that an innocent man was convicted because the system was rigged.

I see and that may be true.

However, I think an example from a trial that even older generations may recall would be a better choice.  You are referring to a justice system that has changed, for better or for worse, over the years.

PS, if we are going to go that far back, how about the much more infamous Sacco and Vanzetti?

PPS, I got curious and just found this in Wikipedia:

"After the first two trials, which resulted in hung juries, Arbuckle was acquitted in the third trial and received a formal written statement of apology from the jury."
