A 75-year-old man burned to death while trying to control a fire at a eucalyptus plantation in Sa Kaew’s Aranyaprathet district on Tuesday evening.

The district police station received an alert at 8.30pm that Boonsee Thamungmee was killed by a fire at the plantation in Moo 6 village in tambon Hunsai.

The man’s charred body was found near a pond about 100 metres from his tractor. Locals said they saw Boonsee drive his tractor to the plantation to stop the fire from spreading, but the blaze could not be controlled and even the tractor caught fire.

Boonsee tried to save himself by running toward the pond, but could not move fast enough due to a physical disability and found himself caught in the blaze.
