Skytrain skirt-slitter rearrested

BANGKOK: -- A man was arrested for slitting a 16-year-old student's skirt on a skytrain and then getting off at the next station and masturbating, police said yesterday.

Captain Pichai Sakuntanak, deputy inspector at the Bang Sue police station, said Parin Sinthisarn, 30, had a prior arrest record for molesting girls by slashing their skirts with a paper-cutter. They had, therefore, put up his mugshot at key stations to warn female passengers.

Parin was nabbed at 7pm on Monday near his own photo at Aree station while masturbating, Pichai said.

The victim told police that she noticed Parin standing right behind her so she cried out when the train was approaching Aree station. She said the man left the train at the station and then found that her skirt had been slashed.

Parin was charged with molesting a woman older than 15 but younger than 20 and damaging personal property.

Lt-Colonel Amphol Boonperm, deputy commander of Bang Sue police station, said Parin had confessed to slitting the girl's skirt and admitted he was under prosecution after Pathum Wan police arrested him for a similar incident.

"He claimed to have mental problems and to have received treatment. He said he was not sane when he did it," Amphol said, adding that Parin would be sent for a psychiatric evaluation.

Parin could face 10 years in jail if diagnosed to be of sound mind, Amphol added.

Update:

Five years for skirt slasher

BANGKOK: -- A man described by psychologists as a 'sexual deviant' was yesterday sentenced to five years in prison and a course of therapy for slashing the skirts of schoolgirls waiting at Bangkok train stations.

Mr. Parin Sithisarn, a 30 year-old mobile phone salesman, confessed to having used a knife to slash the skirt of a high school student, as she was boarding a Skytrain last October, leaving a two-inch tear up the side of her skirt.

He also confessed to having carried out similar crimes on four other occasions between October 2003 and February 2004.

Although he was sentenced to five years imprisonment, and a fine of Bt20,000, this was commuted to 30 months and a fine of Bt10,000 in the light of his confession.

The court also decided to suspend Mr. Parin's sentence by three years in order to give him a chance to return to the society.

A psychologists' report on Mr. Parin suggested that he was suffering from mental illness, and was unable to control his sexual behaviour.

Mr. Parin will undergo a year's course of therapy, and his behaviour will be under observation for a further 12 months.

Hmmmm the outcome of the subsequent charge may be a little bit tougher for this ######.

Yes, the charges upon which his sentence was based do not appear to include this latest one at Aree Station. But will he plead that the pressure of the forthcoming trial caused him to lose control?

Has he been charged with masturbating in a public place? Is there such a charge on the books? Maybe a variation of the charges in this more recent case would bring a different court into play, with different results.

Now when we see a guy on a leash cutting paper dolls at any BTS station , we'll now it's him undergoing his therapy. :o
