Work permit in progress

Featured Replies

My employer (private international school) is telling me it's ok for me to teach without a Non-B, work permit, and teacher's license, as long as the documents are in process. According to them it's not illegal if they can prove the process is moving forward. And it is normal for teachers to work while the process is ongoing. They also told me that Immigration can't come to inspect the school without providing 3 days' advance notice. I'm pretty sure this is a heap of bullshwag. Can anyone confirm?

Yes, that's bullshit

You cannot legally work one minute at a Thai job w/o a work-permit.

If they get 3 days notice, they are paying immigration under-the-table for that notice.  Similar is done for the "ED Visa" schools, to let their non-attending students know to show up for a "surprise" inspection.

If immigration/labor were to show up, nothing would happen to the school, and only the "disposable" teacher would face the music.  On the other hand, many say there is no way to get employed here at many schools w/o doing what they suggest.

How long do they claim this "processing" will take?

Expect it may take longer than they say - but who knows.
