Earning 200kbht/month in the UK was easy (1990s). I retired in 2001 earning more than that.
I doubt there are many jobs in Thailand worth that much, easier to just stay and work in the UK.
 

There could be many if it was not so retarded to setup a company here.

The taxation rules are quite favourable for IT startups and co, the market size not bad at all.

It could have all been a good competitor to singapore.

But as always it's just wasted opportunity because thai greed and xenophobia.
They prolly want to keep foreigners here powerless and thai people out of jobs that show them how the rest of the world works [emoji848]

That's true. In Thailand you either need to go BOI which takes time and is onerous, or get four basically useless Thais for each useful farang. 

 

Taking the BOI approved company rules and this smart visa, throwing out the bureaucracy, packing them together to create an easy & quick startup package for foreigners would be an obvious, working solution. After say four farangs it would be ok to start enforcing some Thai quota. I'l give it a 0.0001% chance of happening.

Most expats i know earn or have more money as a budget than that available per month. 

 

Most people wouldn't bother to life here otherwise. 

 

Thonglor to phrom phong is an expensive area and not worth living with far less especially if u aren't single...

I make in excess of this but in Afghanistan and not in Thailand. I have yet to see a company (including foreign owned) which pays stateside salaries in Thailand. The vast majority are only looking for Thais with the equivalent education and certifications, which is a bit of a rarity all unto itself.

Invest your money and pay a huge sum for a visa for 4 years with absolutely no guarantees? There is a rejime in charge at the moment and Thailand has a hostile enviornment toward foreigners.

Thailand should capitalize on her ample beaches, food and women.

No visa is safe here including the smart visa.....I have never seen a country change visa rules so often and putting so little thought into the changes...They will be very hard pressed to get so called smart companies to invest big sums of money here with the constant rule flipping....

Of course you have, as a martial arts teacher e.g. or anything that are evening classes. The problem with the ordinary work permit is: you need a work permit for everything ... if my GF brings some students home to chat with me in english: I need a work permit.

Nothing is going to happen to you if you help local kids in your village speak English. 

 

I’ve openly tutored local kids for over 10 years. No one cares about that other than the work permit posse on Thai Visa.

Thank you for the advice. My GF is a teacher in a private school. She plans to quit the job and set up an afternoon and weekend school. Helping her out without work permit could be dangerous if one in her old school talks bad about me to immigration. So I'm not really sure (yet) how to tacke that. We consider to found an "cultural exchange club", which can hire me for language things, western cooking and martial arts. I keep you informed ... ????

The industry I worked back in the old country had to keep paying me increases every year because the "younger generation" who they eagerly employed at half of the salary of the older more experienced gents couldn't do their jobs properly because they didn't have the hands on experience and of course, I wasn't going to provide them with that, as the eager CEO's who were looking to line more of the profits in the pockets at the expense of so many older experienced blokes who were literally forced to leave, now have to deal with the mess, but life goes on, they can sweep things under the carpet for as long as it takes, but when the <deleted> hits the fan, millions and millions of $'s in contracts will go out the window, I hope one day.

 

Fortunately for me, I made the $'s and got out at 55, but not before making sure I threw a spanner in the works when I was putting together a major contract, so as to say, we missed that one fella's, and I am sure you won't forget me, let your younger inexperienced guys try and put the pieces together again, that was one for all the experienced guys that you forced out of the industry to line your pockets with more profits, suffice to say, what goes around, comes around ????
