Are computers breeding a human race destined for extinction?

Think truck drivers will be around for a long time,I'm sure computers can't tie ropes, chain down machinery, strap down loads with load binders, roll out 1 or 2 tarps, depending on the load, change flat tyres, replace blown globes, load bales of wool, load grain, repair coolant or oil leaks, and do on.

If machines were able to replace humans not only in repetitive work but also in creative work, we humans are doomed. All civilizations goes into decline after the peak and earth humans are just after the peak of the curve.

With automations, humans with poor work skills will be made obsolete ( read incarcerated) . Maybe like some literature proposed, earth population of 300 million is optimum . What is going to happen to the rest?

Moreover, the more intertwined you are with machines, the further you are away from your god which resides in your heart mind.

Just because a computer or other AI can do something does not mean it must be done that way.

I would never buy an autonomous vehicle- I like driving even with the risk.

I refuse to buy a smart phone because I dislike  being constantly tracked.  I have a cell phone and  it's a phone- you use it to call people and get calls.  Texting is a waste of time.

When I go out for a drink or to eat- i want someone to swerve me- I don't want a kiosk or some robotic entity .

If this continues on - at some point people will not have anything to do.  some countries are already talking about a guaranteed income in which a human is guaranteed money each month for doing nothing- because there are no jobs.

It's time for Governments to consider  what AI and full computerization will do to the World . I refuse to be told by a computer that I must do something......at least with a human I can tell them to piss off if I don't like it.

I have read that the Japanese  have developed a 'female' robot that looks and feels natural and  speaks  to one with emotion. I suppose  Walking street in Patttaya will have them on hand for 'rental-in the distant future.  I refuse to bar fine a robot although from what I have seen recently they may have already arrived.

If you are using a cell phone then you are being tracked. I don't think the type of phone is relevant.  It is the mobile phone system that interacts with your phone via the phone towers. It knows which tower your phone has communicated with so it also knows your rough location. Not gps style accuracy agreed.

Already an improvement over my mates current girlfriend. She is a lifeless drone that only wakes up to 'play phone' and put her palm out for money.

Not sure who is worse, him or her.  I prefer to blame him.

Depends where you live. If you live in a big city then it's a big deal if all computers crashed. If you live in the country not so much and if you live in the country in Asia even less so. I have a computer, I use electricity, I have air-con, so they all crash, so what, I cook with gas, could use charcoal, no shops with fresh produce, plenty of fish, chickens, ducks, pigs, cows etc here and most grow their own vegetables. It would be easy to do without AI in the country, even without electricity altogether, there are several families in my village who only recently got themselves connected to the grid, they saw no point in it until their teenage children pressured them. If you take away the goodies people adapt.

Not so sure about that, the man who can use an axe and make a rope would be king post computer age, the woman who could weave cloth from silk worms would be queen.

The usual whingeing from guys who want a medal for holding on to their dumb phones.

I am not one who hates all technology- I have a cell phone and a computer and enjoy both but I do not worship them.  I don't need a smart phone as I have no business to conduct except on line banking; I dislike Facebook as a useless appendage and I don't care what you had for dinner or what Aunt Bee is doing in Outer Mongolia.  If I want to  find out about anyone- I call them.  That's what a phone was invented for.

If my wife who has the most modern phone wants to spend her time  sending text messages; taking pics of the dinner or generally wasting her time that is up to her.

I enjoy having a real newspaper in my hands; picking up a classic book or doing gardening  and even drinking beer and having a chat.  I don't want a medal for any of it because i enjoy it.  If you don't- everyone to their own.

We are an adaptable species. One only has to look at the different racial groups who have evolved in response to their environments to realise that.

Thanks to medical advances, the lifespan of humans is probably longer than any time in the past. If I had lived in the 1800's, I would have been dead about 15 years ago.

The smarter humans will survive. Science and technology will help them.

WIth AI coming fast in, i think the possibility of extinsion of human beings is real.

We, are first the "gods" and create AI robots one time. We create a new "mankind", and then we go down as we have or limitations. Seeing humans as we were and still are, brilliant but aswell greedy and stupid and the latter is growing fast.

The limitations of the AI will reduce fast. Its like in the scifi movies, yeah i can see that future coming.

At one point it could be like the borg, we will assimmilate you, resistance is futile.

OUt of control AI? Think not , its just logical reasoned by an AI then.

We will have that "mistake", very probably.

Same as sending a message to aliens in space telling where we are and what we are.

If someday an alien is coming, we have gallactic war instantly. We already shoot eachother for just nothing. If you only invade someones space, they will shoot you down. Especially USA is like that. So we will have our galactic shit.

But maybe first we will have too many people and no more food, nothing anymore, we used all as grasshoppers and allready then we are going down. Allmost 10 bliion people on this planet, many alreay (still) without food. I saw the docu movie about that from National Geographic.

Yeah maybe, i dont care.

There was one man in USA, saying lead in gasoline brought diseases.

A billion dollar industrie, but at the end he "won" and now its replaced allready for long time. Now they add other substances to it.

There was one man at NASA saying they used a wrong item on a spaceshuttle, they laughed and the spaceshuttle blew up.

Guess there will be waaaaaaaaaay more things like these.

Im sure not the first one who has similair idea like this.

What appears to be going down is your general knowledge not food production.

Maybe try reading your cell phone and google famines world wide.

...And what are you going to do about it?  Besides complain?

Sure.  Have you ever seen the people who decide to jump off of the cliff into the water... at the last second, they chicken out and change their minds... they fall anyway, just, they end up belly-smacking it without any control.  Or the ones who want to jump across the stream, but they're afraid and do it half-heartedly and fall in.  Make a decision and commit to it, or you might end up doing it anyway, just badly.

People have screwed up for ages.  That's nothing new with technology.

Maybe you should find some docu's on your phone which are worth to see the truth.

Some stupid bargraph doesnt tell a thing, could easily be manipulated to keep up good figures. Find some real sites on that *** phone of yours. Your general knowledge seems to be fed by an overload of food. Greedy and stupid

This has nothing to do with food production, simply food distribution.  What does it have to do with technology, except that technology can help get food to people who need it and can help people who have food coordinate with those who don't?

If we are talking about space exploration on a Galactic scale then our current technology is very, very primitive. So far human space exploration has taken us to the moon, and in Galactic terms that's like sticking the end of your big toe in the pacific ocean.

I think any contact with an alien race would be benign. An alien race that has the technology to travel vast distances across the Galaxy must be highly educated in physics, astronomy, chemistry etc... and why would such and intelligent race travel those distances just to blow us up or something.

Maybe there are aliens out there that know of our existence, but they choose to put a quarantine on our planet because of our primitive technologies and the fact that we (us humans) are still at war with each other through politics, religion etc.

Let's hope one day we do make contact. Maybe they'll give us a kick in the right direction before we destroy our selves.

Maybe you could notice i made a sidestep and was replied and then i replied again on that. However technoligy is also involved in foodproduction. As for the manny factories fabricating that food, ready to eat. Besides farmers were also helped with it to produce. We cant do anymore without technoligy, otherwise we wouldnt have been now with 9 billion people. The point is when do we go to far with our technoligy and all was for nothing, we have no more humans and we created a new species.

yup we are just clumsy still in our galactic explorations. Proven is already once aliens were here and lots is hidden by secret sections of governements and otherwise. I think we dont know half of what those sections know. Why we need aliens to kick us ?

We need to kick ourselves and see that the system we are living in is wrong.

I dont think humans will ever change and it is still mostly me, me and me.

Already started with first humans, if you are believer, in bible with Kain and Abel.

And guess what it never changed in the many of thousands of years.

it's quite ridiculous to imagine all computers everywhere would stop working, there is no possible physical scenario in which all computers would be affected.

OK then, a cyber attack stops all the computers in your country working- what happens to all the citizens in that country ( less, of course, the ones trained to survive ).

I was listening to a guest on the radio this morning describing how digital has made people remember less well. Too much information too quickly. The human brain can't absorb it all.

Are machines taking over otherwise? Well I went to a Mcdonalds today and as many people know they have kiosks these days. Now at the kiosk was a girl whose only job was to try to get you to use the kiosk. So her job is to train us to one day make us do it by habit and the only point of her job is to make what she does obsolete as quickly as possible.

They also are beginning to use people in countries like India to do drive thrus. They can't quite eliminate this job but they can easily do it cheaper now. People who mine coal are told they are useless pieces of dung and advised to learn to code, which will never happen.

Truck drivers and taxis (including Uber etc.) will be out of business very soon. I think something like 11 million people drive trucks and they will be the easiest to replace. Pilots for the most part are only still around because they provide piece of mind on planes that a human can intervene. The human ironically is much more likely to actually crash the plane.

Picking stocks is being taken over by the algorithms, it seems one day you won't need a human.

Cashiers of any kind won't be needed as amazon and others eliminate their positions. Tax accountants as well are no longer that necessary for the average guy. Just file online.

Today's programmers will eventually be replaced by software that writes software. Much like the GUI made it accessible for the average guy to use a computer just about anybody will be able to grab a code out of a library and push execute to add features to whatever they want. The average 12 year old will be so much more gifted that if you plan to keep that fat coding job in ten years you had better constantly learn.

The world should lose about 2/3 of it's population if not more. Any of you that have a kid particularly more than one. Shame on you, that's the most selfish thing you can do. Then you come crying about how others need to cut back because your kids futures aren't going to be bright. Try this... stop breeding.

The only positions I can rely think of that must remain are lawyers and politicians. So yeah pretty bleak. Agree with everything you write except Those two fields will be the only two that are illogical to the point that machines can not speak that language.

AI will create machines capable of thought processes.

Humans are just biological machines running on electricity ( at the atomic level ) and our brains are similar to computers in that they store information and process that information to produce a response. AI will replicate that process.

They also are beginning to use people in countries like India to do drive thrus. They can't quite eliminate this job but they can easily do it cheaper now.

Won't be long till big food companies automate their food production. The way they do it at McDucks is set up that a machine can do it once the machine is perfected. They are already, as you point out, working to eliminate the counter staff.

Not too long now and one will be able to spend all day without any human contact. Work from home- great. No commute, no parking hassle, lunch is delivered by drone to the front door, the item one bought on line is also delivered by drone. No need to go out the door for anything. Get fat and unhealthy, die, and never be found till the smell gets so bad the neighbours notice.
