Uncomfortable mattress solution?

Featured Replies

All i've come across so far is foam toppers in Big C for 3000 baht, which is enough to buy a new mattress

Is there any alternative methods? like something from a night market, or buying a sheet of foam etc.

replacing the mattress isn't an option (and i've tried flipping it)

3,000 baht foam toppers -- are you missing a zero there? Or else just looking at what are really mattress covers - these will not help much if at all.

A decent foam topper doesn't come for under 10K

They make a big difference, though.

If you want cheaper you could try putting an inflatable air mattress on top of the mattress, those do come for around 1,000 (But makes having the other mattress rather pointless). I have one i take with me whenever traveling in Thailand because I find 95% of the beds in hotels here to be unbearably hard. Be sure to get one that comes with the manual pump.

With the air mattress you can adjust to the  degree of firmness you want.

Very difficult to 'try before you buy' with Lazada.

We bought quite a good topper at Robinsons for 6,000. It is serving its purpose, but they are no substitute for a good mattress, which you certainly won't get for 3,000 @cyril sneer

If you really are unable to replace the mattress and you're in that bed for the long haul then look back at @Sheryl post again. There's some good advice there.

I use to own a furniture and mattress store.  Most likely the springs in the mattress have lost their resilience.  Mattresses have a life of between 7 to 10 years depending on the quality of the mattress and the weight of the sleeper(s).  Putting a topper on it will do nothing to improve the support.  You need to buy a new mattress

might splash out for the foam then, was just checking there wasn't a better alternative first

not sure it's better to buy from big c/tesco or lazada though

He hasn't actually said what the problem is.  If it is lack of support then yes, likely a springs issue. I was assuming he meant it is too hard, which is true of almost all mattresses here even when brand new. For that, a foam topper is the answer.

Mine is a Lady Americana, Queen sized it cost I think around 15K on sale (HomePro).

I don't think a 3k foam mattress that roles up tight for transport is of western standard.

It would take 2 pro wrestlers to flip my mattress but the support is just amazing. Foam would be one step up from the floor

Or spring mattress , they sell both.

I have one of these from IKEA.  https://www.ikea.com/th/en/catalog/products/60272253/

6,000B

Placed on top of my 20,000B Thai mattress (which gives me back ache on its own) it is has been fine for 5 years.

i use a tatami mat on bed above matress covered by bedsheet.  very comfortable. used to be on floor japanese style but i had to bring a bed in due to logistics

Thais are used to hard mattresses, I've seen them sleeping soundly on bare floors. My solution with my GF was to buy a double bed topper to go on a king-size bed. That way we both sleep comfortably.

Polyurethane foam tends to build up too much body heat. Reconstituted polyurethane ( the multi-coloured stuff ) is even worse, because it is too hard as well. A waste of money.

The best mattress toppers are made from natural latex foam. I didn't get any change out of 15,000 baht when I bought mine.

Saw a whole family in their home yesterday, all sleeping comfortably on the tiled floor - there was an empty bed right next to them.

You get what you pay for. A good topper and a good night sleep is worth every penny.

Me too. Like the Thais, I am a real man, without the need to be cuddled in some giant pillow like some effete baby.

Oh, oh,  to think your folk charged the Maxims at Pozieres...and you, their descendant, is swaddled in comfort. I can hear the cries of anguish from the heroes sleeping eternally at Villers-Bretonneux. Toss away your creature comfort, honour your ancestors!

I like a hard bed btw.

Foam would be the economic way to comfort.

You may want to try Tesco/Big C to avoid wasting time if the Lazada item is not as advertised.

Stop being a cheap charlie. I paid 20000b 12 years ago and still lovely

Go to Mattress City, good prices for mattresses.

i'm happy for you, how much was your house?

buying a mattress isn't an option, just renting a room

IKEA has a reasonable good latex topper for 4'500 KING.....MS>

Masochism is not a forte of mine. Be my guest.

Something ironic about being accused of decadence by the citizen of a country that specializes in manufacturing vehicles with the handling characteristics of marshmallows.

ha! Try one of those stupid Teslas bucko...

The best solution for me has been to head to the local Buakhao market amd buy a cheap thick blanket cover and just sleep on that....easy, peasy....????

AliExpress has some options around the 1000 baht range

For those wanting a decent bed. I think spending around 5k is enough for a strong well fabricated mattress.

I recommend CNR centre Rd Sukhumvit for patts.
