Video: More crazy driving - minivan does unexpected U-turn

Dash cam footage posted to the "Hia" site on Facebook showed a minivan make a sudden U-turn in front of an approaching vehicle.

The driver has to brake sharply narrowly avoiding a collision.

The incident happens just after two minutes of the three minute video.

It was uploaded originally by Nonglack Bunsrapung who said that they were not going faster than 90 kmph.

It happened on Monday about 9 am at an undisclosed area in the Thai countryside.

    I saw 2 crazy drivers in that clip, the vehicle with the dash cam was fairly shifting,, and the minivan driver just a complete idiot.

  • Idiocy by the minivan driver, but the dash cam driver was driving like a complete clown too. Both as bad as each other in a clip that epitomises Thai drivers pretty accurately.

  • Amazed that they worked...

Why? I think he was driving faster than 90, but he was driving ok. He overtook a few times on the left, legally allowed in Thailand and SOP anyway.

Looks fast and a fair few dangerous bits of undertaking. I would say completely reckless IMO.

Again, why? He was overtaking on the left, SOP and legally allowed, in a very safe manner with the only traffic nearby the vehicles he was overtaking.

Looks like he was speeding, but that can be difficult to judge with also part of the bonnet being in the picture.

Again, why was he driving like a lunatic, speed aside.

The most amazing bit of the video was I'm still awake ????

the minivan could be seen moving out into the video car, but no slowing down in anticipation that he may continue, no forward planning.

why did he wait a while before pulling away after the near miss, and then stop, maybe dropped his mobile phone, at least it slowed him down a bit

Definitely speeding. I have a dash cam and it tends to look slower than actual speed when replaying. This selfish idiot was speeding through built up areas like hr/she owned the road. And.....had the nerve to complain about other drivers

Did you miss all those terrific drivers of slow moving vehicles hogging the outside lane? Regular daily occurrence.

And the pulling out in front of oncoming vehicles, often ones travelling both ways, to swing a right turn on a 4 land road - standard practice.

Seriously I see instances of this virtually every day.

you are right, it is quite normal behavior for a Thai;
to go beyond the left is allowed in Thailand;
he certainly rolled more than 90 per hour at the beginning of the video but then he slowed down in the city, rolling even at the same speed as the motorcycles he then passed.
And when the minibus cut him off, I think he had to drive at about 80 per hour;

The problem is always the same; no police of the road, no auto school or very little and not obligatory;
and especially Thai do not know how to ride on the left,
Do the same in Europe, drive in the middle lane of a three lane one-way road and you will be stopped by the police

Dash cam car was over-taking, under-taking, weaving around at a fair speed... judging by the number of vehicles he passed.

Very lucky he was paying attention or that would have been a very nasty smash.

Both idiots.

And didn't get "nose to tail" himself.

Nothing wrong with the dash cam driver. And ... Pray tell ... How can you tell he was speeding ? Got Radar Vision ?

Those Yahoos in the inside lane should have been in the outside lane.

Mini Van driver lucky as at impact he was square in the sights.

Dash cams are deceptive because they make vehicles look like they are travelling faster than they are. Check how quickly the camera car stopped. It indicates to me that the driver was not "shifting", just not wasting time or dawdling like the traffic around him. His lane changes were quite well executed as well. He gets the benefit of the doubt from me. Thank you and goodnight.

I think they should make seat belts illegal here and install steering wheels with sharp blades on them. Help Darwinism out a bit.

Compare to the speed of the other road users. It's not the speed that kills, it's the difference of speeds. We're all travelling happily at about 107,000 km/h around the sun.

Anything wrong with overtaking and undertaking?

By Thai standards this was pretty tame.

Not sure why this was even news.

Watch Ch3 morning news on any given day and you'll see much more road carnage

Who were all driving slowly in the fast lane, as happens here most of the time. What other choice did he have?

No.  Both legal not only in Thailand but elsewhere as well. Australia for example.
