Singaporean arrested on narcotics charges

BANGKOK: -- A Singaporean was arrested early yesterday morning in his Bangkok hotel room after police found cocaine, ecstasy pills, ketamine and other illegal drugs in his room.

Pol Lt-General Charnwuth Watcharapuk, commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, said Tan Heng Chin, 46, was arrested at 1am in his room on the 16th floor of the Nasa Vegas Hotel at the Klong Tan intersection.

Police found 101 ecstasy pills, six ketamine bottles, a bag of cocaine, one kilogram of marijuana, and 40 packs of crystalised methamphetamine.

Charnwuth said police had been following Tan for a while after a drug suspect named Tan as a major drug dealer in Bangkok. He alleged Tan was a member of a drug network and had been selling drugs to partygoers in Bangkok for a long time.

Charnwuth alleged Tan smuggled the drugs through the southern border to sell to youths and partygoers in the Sukhumvit and Ratchadaphisek areas.

He alleged Tan sold ecstasy for Bt400 to Bt500 a pill and ketamine for Bt900 to Bt1,000 a bottle.

Tan also falsified visa and immigration stamps, he alleged.

Tan was charged with possessing drugs with intent to sell and falsifying official documents.
