BANGKOK, 14 March 2019 (NNT) – The Prime Minister of Thailand, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, on Tuesday asked citizens to use natural resources, especially water, more efficiently ahead of the upcoming drought season.

Gen Prayut said Thailand must do better to use its resources properly and efficiently for long-term development and sustainability. For the past four years, he said his administration has rolled out numerous water projects to ensure sufficient supply for household consumption and agriculture. With that said, there remain a number of large-scale projects waiting to be launched.

Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda said the amount of water available this year will be less than last year, and ordered local agencies to brace for possible water scarcity both inside and outside irrigated zones. Water trucks have been prepared in the event of an emergency. Local producers are advised to grow crops and vegetables that can tolerate drier conditions and higher temperatures.

On Tuesday, the cabinet endorsed a project to feed skilled workers into the medical industry. The project will require a budget of 1.7 billion baht. The move caters to the country’s preparation for the ageing population.

Also the cabinet approved a proposal to promote Menoraor Nora <โนรา!> dance, a type of dance drama originating in southern Thailand, as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. In Thailand, there are 274 groups performing the traditional dance in four provinces namely Phatthalung, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla.

In addition, the cabinet pushed back the deliberation of the master national strategic plan to next week as suggested the Ministry of Interior.

One way is to nationalize all natural resources owned by the Thai military (yes, it privately has title to Thai developed and undeveloped property that is separate from State ownership).

Who finally turned the light bulb on ??

A little late me thinks.

Great announcement so close to Songkran.
