Police hunt "stressed man" throwing bricks and rocks at passing traffic in Nakorn Sri Thammarat

A member of the public caught the image of a man hurling bricks and rocks at passing traffic in Muang district of Nakorn Sri Thammarat in Thailand's south. 

 

The man fled down a soi when a brick he threw went through the window of a hotel courtesy van bringing guests from the local airport. 

 

Bangkok engineer Apichai, 30, was hit in the mouth by a brick. He was taken to hospital.

 

He said that he was in town to go to a friend's wedding and was staying at the hotel. 

 

Police said they know the identity of the attacker - he is called Chalermkiat and lives nearby. 

 

His relatives said he lives with them from time to time but they had not seen him all day. 

 

Whenever he is stressed he goes out and starts throwing rocks at passing traffic, they said. He has done it many times before. 

 

Police are looking for him as a matter of urgency.

In a village near me a mentally ill man used to through stones at people and cars and some times he would threaten people with a knife. Interestingly he was always very polite to any farang who went near him, his anger was just vented at Thais.

 

After a indecent when he attacked a government doctor who was trying to help him, it was decided he would be chained up in the garden of his family house. He was kept on a chain for years until he died.

 

For anyone in Thailand with mental health issues it is not a good life, the chances of good health care is  very low.

But seriously, how could he be free to do this "many times"?

Psychiatry and mental health clinics/homes are not a priority in Buddhist countries.

The government constantly reminds us that Thais are full of happiness for each other which means most mentally ill live with family until he/she dies.

Luckily the guy didn't hit a van full of Chinese tourists. 

Obviously farangs don't count anymore.
