Seavty and privacy of hotel WiFi?

In this topic I want to find out what kind of diffrent network standards or protocols some hotel WiFi is using

Espassaly that one with website based log in details , valid for one day , it means I Enter my password in the website protocol and then the owner of network knows exactly what each guest is doing in the internet , is that the clue behind this idea ? For some reason when I enter psssword and log in , there must be something like a expire season date , because often after half hour of inactivity I got disconnected and must enter the password again !

I have 4 iPhones and 3 iPads on some I can use this website based log in without any problem , but others even not let me open the log in website , more and more hotels using the website Protokoll log in or even a complete open WiFi !

I installed the mc Afeee security app, and on all this open hotline WiFi with web based log in , I got imidiatly a. Warning , connections not secure , recommended to disconnect imidiatly !

Often 4g not work in hotel cos of wallls and windows block the signal switch back to 3G I hope 5 g in future will using a much lower frequencies

The operator of the WiFi router can always intercept (read) what you are doing over the WiFi whatever method to connect is used.

 

A completely open WiFi means that even other WiFi users could intercept
"on the air" what you are doing.

 

That's why today the very most websites use encryption for transferring data between you and the server ("https"). See e.g. Thaivisa.

For any critical use like banking/financial, government offices etc. the https encryption is an absolute must.

The McAfee advice is typical across-the-board, useless in practical life.

(except it refers to the website that you want to open)

 

To even exclude the WiFi router operator (hotel etc.) completely you would have to take extra measures like using a VPN.

Exact opposite is true. Extremely high frequencies, very low penetration.

10s of thousands of transmitters necessary to cover wider areas.

Some are afraid they will be grilled like in a microwave oven.

To make it short:

If you open an unencrypted website (http) the router operator (hotel) and maybe even other WiFi users could intercept.

If you open an encrypted website (https) they can not, only the website that you connect with can read traffic.

"Ca not": to the best that is known.

this the the hotels way of controlling access to their network. so if you checkout, your password will not work the next day.

 

don't use hotel/public/coffee shop wifi for any financial transactions. use cellphone data. much harder to intercept. 

 

google "wireshark packet sniffing". i do this all the time to pass the time in airports. 

 

also don't name your computer or device with your actual real name.  everyone can see it in on the network.

Don't forget to keep moving and turning so you get evenly cooked.
