Sorry but this is a lengthy question. Firstly, I lived in Thailand for over a decade working (teaching and with international NGO'S) and studying acquiring my bachelor's and master's degrees. I moved back to the US over six months ago and before leaving I set up an automatic payment for my Social Security/health insurance.

I am flying into Cambodia to stay for a few months and I want to fly into DMK to see my doctor and get my transcripts.

Q1: Do I need an ED visa or Non o visa to be able to sustain my SS in Thailand? I still have a valid driver's license which I always show to the admin to check in.

Q2: Is DMK safe to fly into or should I take the bus from Phenom Phen? I have zero TV's from my time living in Thailand, but many years of ED (from a reputable university) and non B visas.

Q3: If they deny my SS for not having the proper visa I want to get my tax refund from my time working in Thailand. Has anyone done this before?

Q4: If I like Cambodia I might stay there and keep my insurance, if SS let's me, would this be recommended?

Sorry this is so long, but would appreciate any constructive input.

I don't see a problem flying-in given no Tourist stay history plus 6 months in the USA - provided you have a Valid Tourist Visa when you enter - ideally from the USA (PP, Cambodia is not a good place to get them any more).

Be sure to be carrying 20K Baht worth of cash and/or travelers checks.  If you have proof of a flight-out, and a hotel-booking, that could also be helpful (though in theory not needed for entry with a valid visa).  Chances are they won't ask anything, but be prepared to answer why you are here, and all about your history before, if asked.

I would think it would be your next trip back, if not far off in the future, when they might start to make problems.

I must also defer on the SS questions.  My impression is that as long as you are paying, you have it, regardless of visa-type - but I could very well be mistaken.

Thai social security and the attached health benefits won't provide for anything in Cambodia, if that is what you are asking.

Samran...........If I were to stay in Cambo I would use it every 3-4 months to get my meds. Also, it would be great to use in case of an emergency.

Might work, but you’d need to sort a hospital to be registered at.

I think he may mean a 30 day visa exempt entry not a tourist visa since he does not mention applying for one. People incorrectly call them tourist visas all the time.

You might like to check out Siam Reap as well, I really liked it.

And it's a half way stop between PP and Thailand.

Can't help you with SS.

Q2: Is DMK safe to fly into

Yes, no problem for 99.9% of people.  dress nice, have hotel booking, Air asia very inexpensive

Cambodia health care service sucks. You can now get direct SS paymnets ( ur referring to US social security, right) into Cambodian banks, juts need request a form from PI SS office an have bank sign it.

We will have to disagree on this, I found Cambodia cheaper for almost everything.

Beer 50c/pint, cocktails $1, Indian curry $4-5, Air con hotel with swimming pool $12/night, bicycle hire $2/day, pot of tea $1.
