Losing candidates call for re-election claiming 'irregularities'

Pheu Thai and Future Forward candidates for different constituencies in Bangkok jointly lodged complaints with the Election Commission (EC) on Friday, demanding an investigation into alleged ballot-counting irregularities.

Trirat Sirichantaropas, the Pheu Thai candidate and Nittcha Boonlue of Future Forward for Constituency 13 and Future Forward candidate for Constituency 6, Chris Potranan, submitted evidence to the EC headquarters.

They called for a re-election if the investigation proved their accusations.

The EC’s unofficial results in the March 24 general election reported that in both constituencies, candidates of pro-junta Palang Pracharat won the election.

Trirat claimed that he suspected some irregularities in Constituency 13 as the number of voters were less than those of election ballots.

Vote counting was held in a rather dark atmosphere, he said, adding there was reports of vote buying for Bt500 each.

He said Democrat candidate Parit Wacharasin of the same constituency also intends to lodge complaints.

Nittcha said that she found something unusual during the counting process and asked that the EC reveal the scores of all polling stations in Bangkok.

Chris said it was strange that all eligible voters showed up to vote at five polling stations in his constituency. He called for the EC to organise a re-election.

She sure melts this old fart's black heart.

Seriously though.. Take your saline drips and dead friends and go back to your tombs junta idiots, let the younger generation take over and have their way. You've raped the country long enough. I'm no PPT fan either, but given the current situation, it's still by far the lesser evil and if the coalition can work, so be it. Godspeed.

Is The Nation declaring prayut the winner? That would be the same as CNN declaring that Trump lost the election since Hillary got the most popular votes LOL

I must admit that would take some believing. Perhaps the good people thought it was best that votes shouldn't go wasted just because citizens were too lazy to attend.

Exactly what I thought when I read the title of the topic.

You would know better than me Woregordie but was the Brexit vote riddled with votes by dead people, prisoners and same persons voting many times?

It seems to me like this is an entirely different situation.

If there truly was all these irregularities then I agree, the election should be considered null and void.

Sad to say....radical change won't occur unless people are willing to die for it. You can protest all you want, the powers that be just laugh that off. The overthrow of that tyrant in the Ukraine is a good example. They were willing to die and some did confronting the military and police, but they prevailed. I'm not advocating violence, but nothing is going to change in Thailand anytime soon.

One election per month would come in handy for our meager household budget.

Disclose the cheater and how they cheated by media and walking word of mouth and really get the word out to all Thai people so they truly understand the devil is alive and well for the wealthy elite and their special interests only. .

Then: This election needs to be void and the EC heads disbanded with new heads put in. Then do a new election that is really controlled fairly with honest people and then with International observers brought in. Then role the dice and I wager a months drinking of beer that the Junta party would probably be 3rd - 4th at best.

Oh, and make it fair so all of the military soldiers can vote in private and not be chaperoned by guards in a private seeing with local people and not just by themselves wit hall military. Then see how many votes this wretched PPPR party will have. Not many.

Anyone who thought this was going to be free & fair is delusional !

Election time Thai style !

Going to the EC to complain vote irregularities is like going to mafia to complain about receiving forged bank notes. Expats here foresaw (in general) what the outcome of the election would be and so there are no surprises. As I have mentioned before, there were no mass demonstrations before the election about the junta rule who moved along in almost calm waters. The current example would be the brexit situation where people are out in protest and petitioning...they may/may not get what they want but they feel free to voice their displeasure.

The Thai people didn't do anything in the last four years...bit late now I think. Mai khit loei waa ja pen baeb nee...Mai pen rai.

Guess if they keep pushing this it will become "The case of the missing losing candidates"

Thai politicians looks sharp compared to that circus that runs England.

Situation in England is a joke and a disgrace to democracy.

In other news: winning party perfectly OK with election irregularities. #captainobvious

How is this one?As long as Thai people keep accepting money to vote they do not disserve anything better!Doesn't the fact that money was paid (by different parties)make the whole election illegal?

I talked to someone who got paid by3 different parties!!

After all of the effort that went into hijacking the recent election results it is unlikely that the EC or junta leaders would ever agree to needing to go through the process again. The next government will be operating under another dark cloud that they hoped this theatric event would dissipate.

Good one but nah, PTP try this one every time they loose in a constituency or by-election.

Only they're allowed to cheat in their own mind.

Good one, but nah.

The article indicates the PTP, Future Forward and the Democrats are all seeking re-elections in their constituencies.

That's right my but, but Thaksin friend, Phalang Parachart's cheating has affected all other parties.

Your obsession with Thaksin is mind boggling.

Obvious cheating by Phalang Pracharat less than a week ago and here you are ranting on about unproven alleged cheating by PTP in an election that occurred 8 years ago in 2011.

Remembering in that 2011 election independent international observers including ANFREL gave the election the all clear noting that the only minor cheating they found was actually committed by the Democrat Party not PTP.

You can but, but, but all you want there is nothing, absolutely no criteria at all, whereby the junta are better for Thailand and Thais, that goes doubly for the ability to compete in elections fairly and honestly.

Rap Against Dictatorship get in there.  You have so much you can say.  Do not leave it so late like you did with the pre-election rap.

Easy for me to say, but this outrage must not be left to go cold. Turn up the heat until they are forced into answers, answers that will be disproved and mocked.
