WRONG!!!  The UK would be leaving under WTO rules, whereby they can set their own trade tariffs.

They can set zero trade traiffs with the EU if they wish and provided the EU reciprocates.

Wait and see how quickly Merkel will  want to deal once the UK operates with WTO rules

so you hope but facts are she wont, yes a few less VWs will be sold as the broke UK enters a recession as BIG companies move to yes youve guessed it the EU

Wow.
This is real intellectual.

The most spoken languages after mother tongue:

1. Mandarin-Chinese      935 Million

2. Spanish                    390 Million

3. English                     365 Million

4. Hindi                        295 Million

If you want to do the big trade deals, it's not wrong to speak multiple languages.

Just as a little tip for the pro brexit business people.

If Spanish man  went to India , what language would he likely talk to the locals in ?

Mandarin ?

If a Japanese man goes to Nigeria , what language would he likely speak to the locals in ?

  Hindi ?

If a Dutch guy goes to Thailand , what language would he speak to the locals in ?

Spanish ?

if he is clever:

1. Hindi.

2. Nigerian.

3. Thai.

All foreign business associates honor it when someone are engaged in the country, cultural and language.
This is called intercultural management and is taught in all economics courses at Universitys.

Your view: English trumps everything is stupid.

I was talking about generally , not people conducting business .

Lets try again :

What language do people from non-English speaking Countries speak to Thais in ?

Would a German come to Thailand and speak to the locals in German , Mandarin, Hindi or English ?

I Can speak thai pretty fluid and good.

Has brought me good deals so far.

Your statement:

English is the International language , once you can speak English fluently , theres no need to learn any other language

Is wrong and lazy.

To learn several languages is good.

English is an important Language, but not the only one. And if you can speak a little the language of your business partners, it is to your advantage. All people are proud of their origin, culture and language.

The belief that English still dominates the world today is stupid.

Take a look at switzerland. Most of the young people speak four languages (English, German, French, Italian).

i can speak six languages (german, thai, english, italian, french, spanish) and a bit portuguese. So how many languages you can speak and understand?

Is ok.

Relax.

The only thing I disagree with you is:

Your statement:

There is no reason to reject other cultures and speak with a high nose of superiority.

May had offered on Wednesday to resign if the deal passed, in a bid to win over eurosceptic rebels in her Conservative Party who support a more decisive break with the EU than the divorce her deal offers.

So she'll resign if the deal is passed, but stays on if it isn't. And she keeps bringing it back and failing. Strange times we live in. Normally it would be the other way round.

Normally the PMs job would be something people wanted, today it's something the sensible politicians avoid.

Nobody wants to leave, nobody wants to be seen as the person to prevent leaving.

Sorry, this is well of topic but just to put the record straight, it is Greek not Latin. Read this if you want a bit of background.

https://www.translatum.gr/forum/index.php?topic=394807.0

Today they call it specialist terminology. This specialist terminology often uses Latin terms, but often also words of Greek or ancient Greek origin. Specialized terminology allows for an exact naming of structures, problems, living beings (including pathogens, see biological nomenclature), bypassing possible misunderstandings due to regional or "national" language differences or various trivial names. If you gain practical experience as a medical doctor abroad (in any way whatsoever), you will be able to start there among colleagues, for example in a report, also with the Latin, anatomical specialist designations ...

How on earth did this thread turn into a debate on Latin etc.???

Seeing as we're way off topic anyway, I'll add my '2 cents' - English is the 'universal' second language everywhere thanks to the Americans!

I too was taught Latin at school and it is useful as a 'background' language to european languages.  Sadly, I can remember virtually nothing of it nowadays ☹️.

Some people have a 'gift' for languages, and so can easily learn another.  Others don't have this 'gift', and find it v. difficult to learn other languages.

I though English was the universal second language because we conquered half the world.

Same reason Latin was the original universal language.
