Visa run in Burma or Malaysia?

Featured Replies

I have to do a visa run before my departure and was wondering if you guys could advise me the best and cheapest option.

I'm currently staying on Koh Tao till the beginning of next week and plan to go to Krabi after that. Where should I do the visa run? What route is cheaper and more comfortable? Should I go to Chumphon and do the visa run in Rangon? I think the ferry to Chumphon is around 500baht. Is it easy to get transportation to Rangon and how much does it cost and how long does it take? Do they also charge in Burma to get the visa ($10)? Can I do this in one day and go directly to Krabi afterwards or do I need a hotel? How much would this trip cost?

I could also go to Krabi directly and do the visa run to Malaysia. The ticket from Tao to Krabi is 750 and the cost for the visa run from Krabi to Malaysia 700-1000 (dont know if these prices are still current), depending on the season and takes a whole day.

Any suggestions?

I assume you mean Ranong.

Do you have a visa to use for new entry or are you wanting to a new visa exempt entry?

Info for a border run from Chumphon is in this topic. https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/509800-maats-guide-to-living-near-chumphon-town/ Scroll down to here

Visa Run

Fame Tour is the place to go. It is about 300m or so from the Tourist information Center. The Burma visa run from Ranong costs 650 baht if you do the morning run (05:30) or 750 baht for afternoon (12:30)

Yes. That's the easiest run from Koh Tao. It's ben many years since I've done that visa run, but there used to be several visa run companies based in Chumphon, and plenty of agents on Koh Tao organising the runs.

I had a 60 day tourist visa and got a 30 day extension on Samui. I still have a couple of days overstay and therefore need to make a visa run. I know I could pay another 1900 baht and get a 7 days extension. But if there is a cheaper option, I would prefer this.

So is it safer to go to Malaysia bc people sometimes are denied reentry from Burma?

Stranded in Burma?

Thai immigration will not let him leave if they do not intend to let him back in. They have been allowing visa runs at that border for decades.

Getting 7 days to leave the country (it's not an extension of stay) or a visa run are your only options (unless your the spouse or parent of a Thai).

IMO, you've more chance of problems doing a visa run to Malaysia than Burma. As far as I know there are not any problems doing visa runs at Ranong.

I've decided to try my luck at the Malaysian border. They offer tickets from Krabi for around 700-900 baht. Could someone please tell me what I need for this border run besides my passport? My current visa ends on April 14th and my return flight is April 17th so I already have a flight out of Thailand. Do I also need cash? Should I take all my luggage with me in case there are problems and I can't return or is this easy without problems? This is also my first trip to Thailand. Currently only 60 day tourist visa plus 30 day extension in my passport.
