vivid
Leaf blowers. Whether is it effective or not, only they know. Clearing the ground level fuels. Clearing
vivid
From the video it seems to be somewhat effective, as long as care is made not to blow embers away. And in a higher wind environment (eg afternoons), it just might carry flying embers farther. But i guess at least it's less tiring than using brooms and tree branches to beat on the fire. The best is of course a proper air tanker (747, DC-10) for the big hotspots though they would be limited to having large runways and supporting fire retardant refill sites/equipment, and Chinook CH-47/Be-200/C-130 for the middle sized ones and smaller planes/UH-1H type helis for the small ones. vivid
Maybe Prayut's PR visit/command on what to do did kickstart something useful? The local authorities and people have pulled their socks up? As in many more additional manpower has been deployed, in addition to the heavy machinery/helis. People have stopped started the fires. It's the second day that there is a slight but notable improvement in the air quality. Though this might or might not be due to the actions of extinguishing more hotspots or what. Hopefully this can continue.
vivid
19 hours ago, cerox said: The leaf blower is used to blow the smoke away. In 5 days they will all fly around the streets with that ???????? Maybe they'd just put a water hose in front of the blower's nozzle and the water shooting distance becomes 15-20 metres now. Holy smokes! ???? Edited April 5, 2019 by vivid
Pravda
This could be easily solved by starting a gofundme campaign, or even several. Each campaign would target a specific issue. Compensating poor farmers. Investing in masks and air purifiers. Buying more submarines, etc, etc....
Lucius verus
Why do farangs get upset about unbreathable air in the North? Chiangmai is a backwater town run by corrupt officials associated with the drug trade. Pack up and leave? Head down south or leave altogether. Sparkles
If you took a poll on who would have decided on retirement or work in CM 10 years ago it would have been overwhelming favourable. Now in this pathetic response from Gov officials & lack of action to what is a serious health crisis , until the rain comes I would suggest not many would have earmarked CM for retirement or work. Property prices are probaly falling as I post like Bangkoks did after major flooding.Getting out & relocating is not easy. Been told by several small business owners that patronage is down and driving through the city last Tuesday could well believe it,never seen it so quiet in recent years
