Drip irrigation

I want to set up a small drip irrigation system for my strawberries.

If I feed the water from a water storage tank then to a constant pressure pump to the drip line, the pump will continually cycle on and off.

Is this the normal way to set up a drip line? Is there a better method so the pump doesn't cycle?

This is just a test setup at present.

There are self regulating drippers available that release constant amount of water independent of pressure. You can use them with a simple pump then.

Thanks for that.

Does that mean the pump will be on all the time?

At least during irrigation periods, yes.
You could use a timer switch to operate the pump.

In that case it would probably be better to have spray jets and set a timer for morning and arvo.

I can't see the point in having a drip feed if it doesn't drip all the time.

I've got a timer and spare small spray feeds so better use them.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Before you switch over, you should see how much drip/flow you get from your drip tape by just a moderate amount of elevation (a meter or so). If all you got to do is fill a tank occasionally to have a constant drip system than that is a sweet way to go. 10 meters is optimal, but I had drip tape that would drip with even slight pressure.

Carl.. drive down to mine... I got over 250 small trees irrigated off just one tap with micro dripline. Very easy. I've got lots of the dripline rings I use already made up, your welcome to have some.
