Bookie obviously had worked at the Herald Sun in a past life, surprised and glad to see ADEM YZE is assistant to Clarkson, now that guy was a pleasure for me to watch over his 200 plus career.....should be right to take over from Goodwin an about 3 years....

Picked up my big little paper this morning rather than reading it on line while popping into local supermarket and a nice story from the man chooks doesn't wanna know, Clarkson ticked mr Lyon off for ummmm a little bit to much socialising while in Ireland "I felt really relaxed i proberly socialised a little too much, Clarko checked me, but not to much, you just feel a bit more relaxed", yes well the whole team felt that it seems, Lyon now feels "some" empathy for assistant coaches after his Irish experience, Clarko must have taught him something......He indicated he would delegate more to his assistants and place more on skill, he also said the Dockers were at a disadvantage in recruiting players from other clubs and would focus more on WA players, saying the recruitment of Colin Sylvia from Demons was a disaster......well me just a humble Dee supporter could have told you that, lazy boy, his history over the start to the previous 3 seasons should have been enough to raise antennas, mind you the guy could play but only when he put his mind to it and once landing on them sunny beaches of Freo the blonde hulk just went into vacation mode.

On the Jack Viney incident not Jack Watts....one is dark hair and short the other tall and blonde, captain Jones said Viney " broke a crucial rule, don't smash your team mates in training" yes I like that boy....we been missing a hard nose no nonsense competitor though captain Jones isn't far behind....

One more week until the 'first game'.

First "match".

The game is playing continuously.

Essendon to make the final 8 has moved from 50/1 to 12/1on sportsbet. The Blues r now back to the bottom at 15/1.

It will be a mockery of the Essendon bans and penalty if they make the top 8 this year due to the top up players.

But as I have said before I am looking forward to the based on a true event sports movie that is coming in future

Adam Goodes has chosen to fade out of the game, without fanfare on the night and eschewing any ceremony in the next fortnight of football celebrations. Whether his decision to forgo a farewell flourish was a consequence of the invective infamously directed at him this season or merely his informal way doesn't really matter. The mark that he has made on the game and on Australia will never fade.

Ultimately, the boo-gans will be seen to have been on the wrong side of history. Though comparisons are difficult and never can be precise, Goodes may come to occupy the same place in Australian social history as baseballer Jackie Robinson in the US.

Goodes was not a pioneer as Robinson was when he became the first black man to appear in the major leagues in the 20th century. Nor did he have to deal with segregation in the street, and overt racism in his own dressing room, as did Robinson.

Those who Goodes made uncomfortable need to ask themselves why. I don't accept for a minute that it was just because of his antics as a footballer. Many other footballers have been booed for much worse antics, but none in my memory copped it in such a pre-emptive, sustained and universal way.

That leaves only two explanations: it was an expression of something much more fundamental — which can only be Goodes' stance against racism — or, just as reprehensibly, an expression of something much more shallow, a mindless following of the herd while hiding behind its anonymity. Ultimately, it did hurt the man, at which point it became unequivocally bullying.

Either way, the booing campaign reflected poorly on contemporary Australian sporting culture. It made Goodes look like a divisive figure, but the division he exposed, essentially between views of how a black role model ought to conduct himself, is something we needed to admit and confront.

Robinson became a by-word for the fight against racial discrimination in the US, not to mention a much cherished player. He did not put everything right by himself, of course. But, wrote historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, "his accomplishments allowed black and white Americans to be more respectful and open to one another, and more appreciative of everyone's abilities".

As he slipped away on Saturday night, with the boos of some fans still in his ears, Goodes might not have felt so secure in his legacy. But the boos will die away like the cowardly puffs they are, and he will be seen and remembered as a towering figure.
