Lucky you didn't play on this fella who was one of my idols over my infant years.

( My mother worked with him at Drabbles. )

I have vague memories of him kicking a massive goal from back behind centre, it was I think estimated at 90 yards.

Key Facts

Full name
Kenneth Roy Eli Caporn

Known as
Ken Caporn

Nickname
Moose

Born
12 September 1927 (age 89)

Senior clubs
Claremont

Kenneth Caporn began his Claremont career in 1943, when the WANFL was operating as an under-age competition only. He went on to play a total of 273 games for the club before hanging up his boots at the end of the 1958 season. He also played a dozen interstate matches for Western Australia. Powerful, tenacious and extraordinarily fit, Caporn played as a ruckman for many years before developing into one of the finest post-war full backs in West Australian football, and arguably the best ever to take the field for the Monts, winning the club’s fairest and best trophy in 1951 and 1954. By the later years of his career he had developed his physique to Herculean proportions, and was rewarded by his team mates with the nickname ‘Moose' - with painful consequences for one of his team mates, diminutive rover Bruce Sinclair:Late in one match, Bruce was running back to take a mark on the guidance of one of his team mates' call of "Yours Bruce!" Unfortunately the call was really "Yours Moose!" The result of this small breakdown in communication was a somewhat large breakdown in Bruce's capacity to play for the rest of the game. When he came to some time later he expressed the opinion that Ken's nickname might be changed for the general health of his team mates.¹ Despite playing alongside such high quality footballers as Les McClements, Bill O’Neill and Gordon ‘Sonny’ Maffina for much of his career, Ken Caporn never experienced the satisfaction of playing in a premiership team, or indeed even went close to so doing. - See more at: http://australianfootball.com/players/player/ken%2Bcaporn/15546#sthash.HfjiX2TY.dpuf

Heard of him, and a couple of the others mentioned, but he was born in the same year as my father.

For those wondering I'm 68.

Read an article about Petrie being linked to WC this morning and nearly spat the Coco Pops out.

I'm putting it out there right now fella's, if WC recruit the big Petrie dish, I'm going to support GWS.

Just what we need at WCE, another hot and cold tall forward.

With players Drew Petrie, Hayden Ballantyne, and coaching staff Peter Sumich, could the Eagles be the new retirement club?

Id love to see Boomer Harvey go there for a year

Bookies faves for this weekend

 Hawks $1.55...doggies $2.55

Sydney $1.57 ...Adelaide $2.45

Based on last week I would have thought Adelaide would be favourites, Defensively Mills is a massive out against an attack with 4 in form Adelaide goal kicking forwards.

I still reckon Doggies are in this game and id put my $10 on them...if i bet n games...which I dont

And...not feeling that confident with Sydney...Difficult to see clearly being a Swans supporter...

Shame the Carlton supporter has gone back to OZ....just me and CHimps this weekend

Hawks over Dogs only because of experience.....if the Bullies can pick up a good forward or two they will be hot to trott next year. Im very impressed with Luke, he played at a few clubs including the Dee's for a while, the classic rover type built like a ruck rover in the days before midfielders became in vogue, he was a pure battler no great anything a trier he was lacked pace and class a journeyman he became and I'm thinking will be a top coach....the Scrays have a habit of blooding top coaches....quickly to mind comes T Wallace before he fell on his own sword and a one Mickie Malthouse...Terry Wheeler who didn't go on had a better win loss ratio to Malthouse,

Swans in mind the best run club in the land on and off the field should be too good for the Crows, i would be surprised if they didn't make the prelim, Crows couldn't win the flag they can be taken apart I've seen it twice this season when there been in full flight I'm surprised North didn't put the pressure where it was needed to go but then again they have been the worst team ever to make the finals and i recon even the Dee's won more games than they did in the second half of the season.

Do the boys at Fox Footy know something we don't...

Chooks?

Well Membrey certainly doesn't play for the Swans.   They rejected him and the saints moulded him into a footballer, we don't buy ready made forwards we create them.  Locket, Hall and what forward has the swans ever created? They have purchased ready made ones from other clubs like franklin, tippet, locket, hall etc.

Kangaroos are smart creatures, they know when it’s rained and they know  where the next green grass pick is sweetest.

Welcome Boomer Harvey to the Eagles forward line.

The Eagles will chair you off seasons end 2017.

The Eagles like a challenge dont they? With Simpson open to the idea of recruiting Petrie you guys are going now were fast....

Meanwhile Goodwin he's the new coach of the Demons in case you hadn't heard....recons...there sticking to youth...so that sounds like there looking to offload for draft picks, Hibbard is in the cupboard already a ready made defender meaning Grimes and Daws are bye bye....

My tip is if Daws goes the Dogs will pick him up....personally id give they guy a short contract because he's still young and he's a power forward his paced has picked up, unfortunately he's been injury prone the entire length of his contract but guys like him dont grow own trees...plz one more year.....

Half time in the Dogs v Hawks game...

I really hope the umpires dont decide this game..

I count 4 bad decision in the first half that hit the doggies hard for various reasons.

How was the supposed Hodge touched the ball ruled a behind??  The replay i saw were inconclusive if he touched the ball or not....surely that's a goal?  I noticed no further replays were forthcoming.

ANyway...Stringer with 45 seconds to go in that quarter has a chance t run to goal and score a goal....out on the full....
Tory dickson with 30 seconds to go...chance to goal...misses again for 0.3 figures..

Doggies have the game in their hands at the same time and keep blowing their chances

yeah...its true.  Ever since Lockett begged to come to Sydney, a host of full forwards have craved the opportunity for strong mateship, a winning culture, opportunities off the field, playing finals almost every year for the past 20...
We were able to turn around Barry Hall and make him into the champion angry young man ST Kilda made him.

Tippet knew he was better suited to the ruck job and Buddy just wanted to live in a better city than Melbourne.

Of course Michael O Loughlin wasn't too bad a forward for Sydney, playing all his games at the club and kicking 521 goals.
Adam Goodes, also a one club player managed a lazy 464 goals
Warwick Capper...an outstanding mark and kick...307 goals for Sydney until he mistakenly went to the Bears.

Tony Lockett ..462 goals for Sydney.
Barry Hall...467 goals for Sydney

I was keen to keep Membrey....he should have replaced Goodes for the last year. goodes was playing the same role at that stage.

How good is it to see the see the Smug,Smirking,Borderline Cheating, Hawks eliminated!!

Personally satisfying because i have been saying all second half of the year they wouldn't win this year and even more so because the players are a bunch of c>*#!  I also did fancy the Doggies this game.

How quiet did that moronic commentator Bruce go when it was lost for the Hawks???   Yet with 2 minutes to go, he keeps pumping up the Hawks players credentials...F.F.S...It's the Doggies moment u Big useless T.w.a.t.

Spotless Stadium...Well, only 22,000 capacity, but it will be a GWS home ground record,..which says something of their supporter base.  I'm guessing a lot of Doggies supporters wont be seeing the game they'd like to see.

AT this stage I am thinking Adelaide will win tomorrow...It will come down to Sydney's forward line...Last week Heeney, Rohan, MGlynn.Paps and Richards were all way too S.h.i.t.  (Richards had a good first Q and Papley a good 1 minute where he kicked 2 goals).
If they play like that again we have zero chance.
I'll be backing Buddy for 4 goals tomorrow

I don't mind the Hawks, but 3 in a row was enough for me.

Bruce, with Cyril and Hodge being somewhat quiet, had to his hat on the Bont.

Everything the Bont did was special. I just wish he'd call it as it is.

What about when Dixon had a shot after the siren at the end of the 2nd quarter and Bruce says

" So Duck, what does he do here?""". <deleted>!

And while I'm on Bruce, why does he turn every second statement into a question....hey?

As for the crowd at Spotless, I didn't see the Vic's jumping up and down when Freo had to

play at Simonds stadium with a capacity of around 24 000.

And let's be honest, the Bulldogs usually don't attract a big crowd, a bit like Norf.

Tonight was probably made up of 50% Hawthorn supporters, 20 % neutrals and the rest Doggie suporters.

You have to grow the game a bit for GWS. They deserve a home final.

I like Sydney tomorrow in a close one, but hard to pick.

Word is Sumich is spending a year at the family's market garden.  Then, the next year, Woosha has a senior coaching job for him at Essendon.

I agree with Will,  Hawthorn has long been one of my favorite Melbourne clubs and, if you read my previous post on the matter, you would know what I think of the scraggers.

I was hoping the Hawks would win yesterday and lose the following week.  No one wanted to see them win four!

Premiers this year?

Since they started a final eight, only one side has won from outside the top four. Perhaps a repeat?  Although, the system was changed after 1998 to make it even harder.
