Which teams have done well this trade period?

Richmond has done okay: Dion Prestia, josh caddy, Toby Nankervis

Freo also: Hamling, Hill, McCarthy, Kersten

Saints couldn't get any interest for McCartin,  so stuck with the brittle cant play loser.  They didn't really play in the draft but set themselves up nicely for next year's draft.

Trade wrap for SYdney?

Gone are

Tommy Tradebait... He was ranked 4th or  5th best midfielder for us...and u can't keep em all... It's a loss, but not a great one. heeney is to come into the midfield and supposedly callum Mills also...Though they could be reluctant to move him from down back
Nankervis...No great loss...
Xav Richards. He was offered a contract. No one else wanted him. He can stay at Sydney or go into teh draft.

Sydney have picks 9, 19, 46, 49 & 52

Not sure how much difference pick #9 to #14 makes...but there it is

Overall...not much of anything. Not really sure we were looking for any particular player. We have all the required players on the list, just some need to step up and perform.

I'd believe that talk of trading Tippet out to save some $$ was on the mark...and i'd have been okay with that..

We still have that idiot Sam the Gangly Giraffe on out list...Injured more than he plays....and Alex Johnson should make a comeback next year...

If the Swans wanted pick 9 instead of 14 there must be a player in the academy that they are after. Their thinking would be that he will disappear before pick 14  It will be interesting who they pick.

Make of these what you will, but for the life of me I fail to see how the Saints got given an A+

They got 1 good player in Steele and the Hawks first round pick for 2017. Brown is a list clogger like his brother at West Coast.

Trade verdict: How did your club fare during the trade period?

St Kilda

In: Jack Steele (GWS), Nathan Brown (Collingwood), picks 23, 36, and 2017 first-round pick (Hawthorn)
Out: Picks 10, 68, and 2017 second-round pick

Win: A mighty hand at the 2017 draft, more hard-bodied inside midfielders to build depth, an experienced key defender
Lose: A presence in round one of the 2016 draft

2016 draft picks: 23, 36, 50, 86, 104

What couldn’t they get done?
Nothing. The Saints were stealth-like through the trade period, getting involved in deals where they were required and emerging better off each time.

Nathan Schmook’s verdict
The biggest winners of the trade period after working with a desperate Hawthorn on a swap of picks. The Saints' crop of youngsters means they could stomach a slide from round one to round two this year, and they'll take two first-round selections into next year's draft, giving them an opportunity to trade in experienced guns or continue recruiting quality young players. They are also well poised now to start using free agency more aggressively.

Rating: A+

Yep, a B seems more accurate.

Koby Stevens will take you nowhere.

Saw him close up at West Coast and he couldn't get a regular game for the Bulldogs when they

had a healthy list.

A depth player at best IMO.

Might have to run it from Thailand, get Alex and Chooka to call in after their visits to the Dees and Saints to make sure the players aren't drinking beer till after the indian file warm up,100 press ups,100 sit ups and a warm down lap.If you could be runner when we play in the West that would be great.

First AFL game played on Good Friday will be in 2017. It will be between  North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs. It will be played late in the afternoon and at Etihad Stadium

About time this happened.

Seems Cochrane was able to keep this one quiet...

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/gold-coast-captain-gary-ablett-asked-to-be-traded-to-geelong/news-story/a2199232f48b1072ad8d0a1cb97d84e4?utm_content=SocialFlow&utm_campaign=EditorialSF&utm_source=HeraldSun&utm_medium=Twitter

GARY Ablett asked Gold Coast to be traded back to Geelong this month.

But Geelong says the Suns instantly rejected that bid and Ablett will honour the final two seasons of his lucrative deal.

The Cats confirmed tonight Suns captain Ablett was keen to return home over the trade period if a deal could be struck.

He was keen to return to Geelong to be closer with his family, despite having $2 million and two years still remaining on his current deal.

Cats head of football Steve Hocking says the Cats would have loved to have Ablett back, but never seriously felt it was viable prospect given the Suns’ commitment.

“Gold Coast was very clear on the fact he was their player and will continue to be their player.

He had just signed a three-year deal earlier in the year,’’ Hocking told theHerald Sun.

“They were very clear on that and shut it down very quickly to Gary. We respected their opinion right from the word go.

“It was him looking to come back to the club and it was all to do with him and the Gold Coast. It didn’t drag on too long, it was shut down by the Gold Coast.”

Geelong has some salary cap space but not enough to afford Ablett’s $1 million a year deal.

If he was to move to the Cats he would need to take a massive pay cut or have Gold Coast pay much of his remaining salary.

It is the latest blow for the Suns, who have just lost Jaeger O’Meara and Dion Prestia to Melbourne clubs.

Ablett will likely lose the captaincy outright over the off-season, likely to share it with Tom Lynch or potential allow him to take it over."

Swans have 8 Friday night games and 2 Thursday night games in the draw up to and including round 22. They also play 4 times on the MCG. They only play Geelong once at SS.

Here's the clubs reactions on the 2017 fixtures...

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-10-27/2017-fixture-reaction-every-club

Got to say that's - on paper and based off last years results - a pretty soft draw for the Swans at the back end of the season. Last 5 rounds include Hawthorn, Geelong, Freo, Adelaide & Carlton - though the 3 'harder' games are all away.

Swans should enjoy their Thursday  clash with the Eagles. We only get a five day break before that one having travelled to Vic for a Saturday game.. Swans get six.

Hopefully he can repay the Swans faith...

I'm happy with Dean Towers being re-signed... He has a lot of potential and was hardly done by being dropped for the finals.

Xavier Richards...What a goose... Requesting a trade half way through the period..then deciding to stay on...only to have his offer withdrawn.  he payed the GF, but the guy is there only out of desperation....Sam Reid and Towers should fill his role this year.

Hiscox was a surprise in some ways, not in other.  A Sydney academy prospect the guy had elite endurance but couldnt get the hang of the game....Given one chance this year he looked a bit lost.

Anyway....3 players out, plus Tommy Tradebait...and some players coming in from the draft.

Doesn't look like there are any early Academy players Sydney will be taking....

Sydney has 8 friday night games??  Good grief!  Maybe the AFL likes the ratings they bring..
