Police in Lat Prao swung into action after a post on a homosexual site on Facebook reported that ten pairs of shoes had gone missing in the night from a house.

The post on Cha Bantheuk Khong Tut (Cha's queer report) said someone had come in a car and pinched the shoes - even flip-flops (thongs) had gone missing. Neighbors complained it had happened to them in the past, too.

Investigations by the Choke Chai constabulary and their colleagues in Region 4 of the met police soon unearthed further CCTV evidence from Suthisan that led to a suspect. A car number plate was noted.

They kept watch on Issarakhom for a couple of days until he made his move and went to sell the shoes and many other pairs for 100 baht a time under the Taksin bridge.

Issarakhom admitted it was a fair cop. He said he went out two or three times a week between 3 and 5 am and had been pinching shoes for the last two or three years.

He was jailed for shoe theft in 2013 and served one year and four months.

After he came out of prison he tried selling clothes but rents were too high so he went back to his old ways.

Sanook discovered that Issarakhon was the former owner of a successful "Nam Phrik" company who had even appeared on television.

Nam Phrik is a Thai condiment paste often eaten with vegetables and fried mackerel.

Best not to judge a man till you've walked a mile in his shoes. After that who cares - he's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
