Imagine this kind of thing happening in the UK or the states to asian people.

You think discounts for locals don't exist in the UK, have us visited stonehenge recently?

I'm with your Mrs on that its a disgusting racist tax practiced for decades and seam the norm and perfectly acceptable by some ????

Offensive post removed.

Yes the Thai divers license thing sometimes works, but the practice of blatant racism is not one of the pretty things Thailand stands for. And this primarily only comes from the government. All most other venues don't charge, well except for say like going to the zoo. But Thai drivers license does work there.

I believe locals get discount in the Florida theme park areas too.

My Thai wife feels the same way. Always has. I will respect her opinion, not the clowns on this site.

People here just don't like to acknowledge that in essence, there is nothing new or wrong in differential pricing, discounts, subsidies etc, they happen everywhere in the World, including, as you say in the UK and the US. These people would rather see and shout about racism in everything they see and hear, even when there isn't any. In our Thai family it's a standing joke that I pay more to get into attractions that we all go to, because I am fat and rich.  Naturally,  I am neither of those things, but it amuses them.

Reduced prices for UK citizens only?  Really?  There's nothing about that on the English Heritage site.

The UK National Trust operates differential pricing, lower prices for those who live and or work in National parks. Not just their own employees.

The difference is that someone living in Florida would get the discount, regardless of country of origin.

He is a local in Thailand but it is a discount for native Thais, not a locals discount.

A discount for all locals would avoid the feeling of being ripped off and insulted, which is a result of letting some locals like his wife and kids in for the low rate and the husband who is also a local has to pay the high rate.

Should take the family there then? By posting you ask for feedback, right?

This has been happening for decades, it's nothing new and chronic whinging about it doesn't help.

Being married to a Thai and having Thai children does not make you Thai so why should it make a difference for you!  And it is nothing to do with the colour of your lilywhite skin, either, white-skinned Thais don't get charged!

Oh  but skin colour does  matter, my Burmese staff used to get in for free to many places if  they kept their  mouths  shut. The Thais always thought they were Thai.

Reduced prices for UK citizens only?  Really?  There's nothing about that on the English Heritage site.

I believe it’s free for National Trust or English Heritage members, your membership card is required.

That was nothing to do with their skin colour, it was because they were mistaken for being Thai as a result of their Asian features.   By the way, what colour skin do Thais have?

Do you have permanent residency or are you on a non-immigrant visa?  That is what it comes down to, not the color of your skin, not xenophobia, just a discount for nationals that you are not one of and so not eligible for.

Now you know that's not what I said, what does the English Heritage site actually say about discounts?

You're not in the UK. Thailand is independent and does not subscribe to PC practices. If I go somewhere with my Thai partner where I must pay farang price, I willingly pay, and in full recognition that I make more in one day than most Thais make in a week.

I'm thankful that I can enjoy beautiful, tropical Thailand.

Ask the Luk  Kreungs how they get on.

Doesn't matter if he has permanent residency or a non-immigrant visa, because the official rule is "price x for thai citizens" and "price y (usually 5 or 10 times x) for all others"

They have not singled out Caucasian people, its either you're a Thai national or you're foreign, if you get residency they you get the discount, and there are locals discounts the world over, Californian residents get into Disneyland cheaper than non-locals, for instance.

Yes, it's free also for non-UK citizens who are members.

With workpermit or DT I have always paid the Thai price.

So it is a local discount.

So much tosh typed in only 4 pages its fundamentally wrong to offer duel pricing based on skin color and or facial features end of story wherever you are????

Well that's what you posted and that sure seemed to be what you were suggesting bearing in mind the context of the thread!

Apart from concessions for students and over-65s the Stonehenge site says nothing about "discounts", what's your point?

1. It's about race.

Not only Burmese get in free, as written by another poster.

Chinese get in free, too.  We have done it many times.

Non-Asians must pay.

2. It's not that farang can afford to pay and Thais are poor.

Those Thais who visit tourist attractions are usually not the poor ones.

Those Thais who make these rules and profit from them are city Thais who have more money than most farangs here.

The idea that farangs are richer than Thais is quite outdated, if it ever was true (Thais own land).
