Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed his pleasure over Thailand’s rating as the “least miserable” economy in the Bloomberg Misery Index for 2019, Deputy Government Spokesman Lt-Gen Weerachon Sukondhapatipak said today.

He said Thailand scored 2.1, which was the same score it received last year, making it the “least miserable” country out of 62 economies as rated by Bloomberg.

Switzerland improved to second least miserable. Venezuela was rated the “most miserable economy” with inflation projected at about six million percent this year.

  • Or, if you look at it from the other side, the fact that Thailand is on a list titled " miserable countries" in the first place already looks bad...

  • Misery index is derived from a combination of unemployment and inflation rates, both of which are grossly exaggerated by the Thai Government.

The Thai people are truly euphoric, in particular those in the malls spending their borrowed money.

Sounds like a back handed compliment such as the one "for a fat girl, you don't sweat too much".   ????

..which they have no intention of ever repaying, because they couldn't afford their loans in the first place.

Such a shame that Thailand's miserable git of a PM cannot take any credit for Bloomberg's rating.

Lucky for Mr Metallic yellow the half of those in abject poverty pensioners disabled etc are mostly illiterate and are just lucky to be alive on 800bpm and must have been included in the index great result general oh perfect smiley one????

What a joke. No creditability to this.

The unemployment figures are probably massaged as some other governments do - work one hour a month, hey presto you are employed.

I would say Thais seem to be happier than most with their extensive social networks; however, the rating didn't take that into account.

Absolute rubbish. You have just made that up.

Thailand employs over 3 million Laotian, Cambodian and Burmese workers because it has so many jobs. Thailand actually has negative unemployment. More jobs than people who want to work.

Business owners are always struggling to fill job applications.

What a load of old 8ollocks!

Guess it's time to take down the signs "the floggings will continue until morale improves"

another thing Thailand shares with the USA... sort of.

Thailand the Least Miserable.

USA the Least “soak a poke” Shirt.

impressive.

In a world today in which Bill Gates and Warren Buffet often like to say.... today’s babies are the luckiest ‘batch’ of babies ever born!

really?

Obviously the thousands of bereaved every year from the slaughter on the roads, being about number one in the disparity of wealth between the rich and poor, the dire education system, corruption and  continued political machinations don't come into the calculation. Mai pen rai, as long as the peasants have enough lakorn and cheap som tam they are not miserable, much.

But surely this is all a result of him bringing happiness back to the people!

It reminds me of that expression... "They say I know nothing but they are wrong. I know f☆ck all."

Just goes to show how dodgy these ratings are.  Thailand fudges it by having a low unemployment - but those actually employed gainfully is very low (visited the local mall lately and asked one of the phone browsing staff for information).  Cost of living to wages is through the roof.  Electricity has risen almost 50% in a few years.  Cost of food has risen dramatically. Pollution out of control.  Not so much to celebrate IMO

Reading this BS article has given me a good laugh, so Thai people seeing it would probably get a good laugh themselves.

and the award for most ignorant PM on the Planet goes to ….

Paint a penguin green and it becomes a Hippopotamus - wonders never seize .......

I wonder if the latest news "People see politics, corruption as Thailand's "worst": Suan Dusit Poll" has made it to the government house yet? Article went online at 10h36 this morning.

Arguably 2'000+ people contributing to the survey is not a decisive figure once it comes to Thailand yet, by my own experience, wraps up the subject pretty nicely.

As I am not allowed to paste URLs here, copy/passte above headlines - or leave it in the caring hands of Uncle Tu ????
