Missing chicks

Featured Replies

In the garden we have a few pairs of yellow vented bulbul, one like to build its nest in young palm trees a meter off the ground.

Her first nest one egg out of two hatched a week later the chick had gone but the egg remained

The latest nest two chicks hatched both growing well,no feathers  saw them last night 5pm this morning 9am both gone.

The nest was still intact so I cant blame the dogs.

Its a walled garden with five dogs that soon catch any rats or snakes

Any ideas what likes young chicks

Birds of prey I would imagine.

There's a big brown and black bird, cannot think of its name at moment,

they are always clambering about in the trees looking for nests ,with

eggs or young.  It will be this one

The greater coucal or crow pheasant (Centropus sinensis), is a large non-parasitic member of the cuckoo order

Unlikely if the dogs are running free.

"Missing chicks"

Was a bit misleading, as I was thinking of the featherless type...????
