Hi

I have returned to the UK and during my absence my 'Retirement' Visa has expired.

The 800,000 baht has been in my K Bank account intact for many years.

On my return later this year I intend to start my 'Retirement Visa ' at Jomptien again,  starting from scratch I suppose.

Do I need to re-enter Thailand with some type of visa or just as a 30 day tourist ?

Thanks

Have you considered getting a Non-Immigrant O-A visa while in the UK? Check the Thai Consulate website for the requirements.

As said you could apply for a OA visa if you can meet the financial requirements at the embassy in London.

You may be able to get a single entry non-o visa at the embassy in London or one of the consulates.

If not you could enter without a visa to get a 30 day visa exempt entry and then apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration. Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry apply for a extension of stay based upon retirement.

General requirement for the visa application are here: https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_80

You would need to get a new Non-Imm O Visa to get a retirement extension. It can be obtained in the UK before travel, or you could enter Thailand on a Visa waiver and have that entry converted to a NOn-Imm-O by immigration in Thailand.

If you can get the Non-Imm-O before travel, that is the route I would take.

If travelling to Thailand without a visa (intending visa exempt entry) bear in mind that you can have problems with airline check in. Normally, they will want to see a confirmed onward flight booking out of Thailand within 30 days.

I will be buying a new return ticket valid for 30 days originating in the UK.

That will keep the airline happy.

Thanks for the answers which will help me (eventually) renew my 'Retirement Visa'.

Basically now I can continue where I left off in Thailand - before I had to return to the UK for family emergency.

thanks :jap:

Don't buy a return ticket to UK. If your planning on the visa exempt route I would try obtain boarding pass UK. If refused by airline book online cheap flight to say Saigon, on the spot. If issued boarding pass without onward flight (it does not need to be return)...you will have no problem with onward flight at pp control Thailand.
