The last thread on this has been archived so a new one begins.

Has anyone recently done the STCW 2010 at either MOGIT Laem Chabang or PISTC Pattaya?

I already have OPITO BOSIET/HUET from MOGIT but may have an operator insisting on personnel having STCW 2010 as well. There's some degree of commonality in what's required so I was wondering if anyone knows of a 'hybrid' STCW 2010 or is it the full whack with double the training, days and costs?

Thanks!

Bumping this one as I have another operator that insists on an offshore medical that is compliant with Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) ENG1 medical examination. Apparently the industry standard OGUK medical doesn't qualify so it is either a Norwegian Maritime Authority seafarer's medical or something similar that can state "This certificate meets the requirements set out in the Maritime Labour Convention and the STCW convention."

So, looking for something in Thailand as the MCA (UK) approved ENG1 doctor is in Kaula Lumpur. There's a doctor Thanes Sinsongsook at Samitivej Bangkok that comes up on the Sjøfartsdirektoratet's (Norwegian MA) website.

Any Norwegian seaman here keeping their work medical stuff up to date in Thailand?

NB: This is not the offshore survival training of the original post but the basic offshore medical.

Thanks!

The prices for courses being quoted by PISTC  are a ripoff   double the UK price   ,, for instance  GWO one week price UK £750    PISTC £1500

But the weather's better.

FWIW, the Norwegian seafarer's medical certificate of fitness costs 4300 baht at Samitivej Sukhumvit. The main difference from the OGUK medical certificate is an x-ray so the 500 baht difference is not too bad. It took about 4 hours but that is because their wellness center is very busy right now with people doing their annual medicals. Should be quicker in the New Year.

Anyone wanting the MCA (UK) ENG1 medical in Kuala Lumpur will need to wait 2 weeks as the doctor doing them is on vacation and the clinic stated a need to book 2-weeks in advance anyway.
