One Year Extension Questions

Featured Replies

I recently received a single entry Non-O visa for 90 days from the consulate in Savanhaket, Laos. I am here volunteering for a Canadian charity with all of the relevant documents from Canada.

My questions are related to extensions –

1. When do I go and ask for a one year extension? – my visa expires on May 9th

2. How long does it normally take to get a one year extension?

3. If I do receive a one year extension does that mean that my visa will be good till May 08 of 2008?

4. What is the cost for a one year extension?

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like you're breaking the law already. You need a work permit to legally do volunteer work.

Need to go for extension application before the last day of your period of stay (which would be 90 days after your last entry into thailand)

If you get your extension for 1 year it will be calculated as from the day you last enterred Thailand

Extension fee is 1.900 baht

If you have the required documents for a one year extension of stay you should probably plan to make your application next week as they prefer these be done with 3-4 weeks remaining so if you have any missing paperwork you do not need an extra extension of stay to get it in order.

Will a non-imm O, when I go for extension, can the actual visa have expired?

IE if the visa expires in June, can i get a 90 day stamp in May, therefore having a date stamp in my passport (in August) that is later than the expiry date of the visa (May) and still apply for an extension?

With the non-B, we used to get a minimum of 14 months out of them?

Lop, the OP said his visa is valid until May 9. Supposed he enterred Thailand at the begining of the validity of the visa it would make him entering Thailand around February 12 giving him 3 months or an expiry date of around May 10.

Shouldn't he apply en April and not this month ?

Yes. Only the permitted to stay stamp still has to be valid.

Thanks guys for all the info, I still didnt get an answer to how long it takes to get an extension? Is it done while you wait or does immigration send everything off to Bangkok ( I live in Chaing Mai)?

Thanks

It normally takes a few months of 30 day stamps before the final extension of stay is approved. You do have a work permit?

Yes, have the work permit. So I would assume during this " few months of 30 day stamps" that immigration has my passort so I can not travel outside Thailand?

You will have your passport and can use it with a re-entry permit obtained prior to travel but you will have to be present for each renewal of extension. Your work permit I suspect will also have to be renewed each time you obtain a new extension of stay stamp.
