New monk apologizes to society for getting down and dirty with coyotes at temple

 

 

A recently ordained monk has apologized to Thai society after he was shown cavorting with scantily clad women at his ordination at a temple in southern Thailand.

 

He didn't know what he was doing and intends to be a good monk, he said. 

 

Meanwhile the abbot has said while his actions were inappropriate he had not broken any rules. 

 

Daily News reported on the story without naming the temple in Hat Yai, Songkhla except to say it wasn't the one previously reported!

 

They went to see the abbot who asked not be named.

 

He said that the ordination took place on Tuesday in the multi-purpose area of the temple while he was out on ecclesiastical business. 

 

He said that it was indeed inappropriate as netizens had suggested but as the man was still in ordination robes and was not yet officially designated as a monk in saffron so he had not broken any rules. 

 

If he had donned robes that would be an entirely different kettle of fish. 

 

He said he had spoken to the new monk who said he was caught up in the fun of the moment and didn't know what he was doing. He had apologized to society and stressed that he had joined the monkhood in all seriousness. 

 

The abbot asked the press to leave it at that as going on about this incident further was not in the best interests of the temple or its clergy and religious teachers.

The Abbott asked the press to leave because it was not in the best interests of the temple"  Typical Buddhist monks - hypocrites. What's the betting that after the the press left most of the Monks and the Abbott had there own "private" show ?

The local version of "The devil made him do it". Why start taking responsibility for one's own actions now, in a culture that blames every personal fault on someone or something else?

 

On the positive side. The ladies were of age. Which places him a moral step above many leaders of a number of religious/spiritual followings (Eastern and Western).

Wonder what makes a good Monk ? One that does not touch money? one that does not gamble? one that does not drink alcohol ? one that does not smoke ? one that does not have women in their rooms ? one that believes in having no material items ?

 

If so that completely rules out any Monk in Thailand from being "good"

When I read the headline of this OP, I was thinking, Hmm... I know Thailand temples have dogs, as there are stray dogs everywhere... But I didn't realize they also were home to coyotes.... and what exactly was the guy doing with the poor coyotes!!!!

Not completely true, I know a few who follow the rules, but generally you could be considered correct ????

In other words, a typical stag party before official indoctrination into Buddhism™.

 

If the Abbot was even partially wise and enlightened, he would simply own the antics of his Newb, then spin it to his advantage.  Something along the lines of:

 

"Yes, it was my Temple.  Yes, he has lost his way in life, which is why he's come to us, seeking help to find his way back to the path.  We shall endeavour to..... ", blah blah blah. 

 

This falls short of an apology by a fallible human, defuses the social media bomb, and then reinforces and elevates the program, like Amway©. 

 

Instead, we get immature dodging of accountability and responsibility, wrapped in feeble excuses and machinations.

- Wasn't my temple. 

- OK, maybe it was.

- If it was my temple, don't blame me, I wasn't even there!

- He wasn't really a monk yet, so the "rules" don't apply.

- But, if rules did apply, none were broken. 

- Stop asking stupid questions and talking about this in the media, because you're pissing me off, and messing up my bottom line.

Coyote dancers are now quite common at ordination parties ceremonies along with drugs, booze, souped-up pick-ups and several hundred loudspeakers. All in the name of spirituality.

Yes do that, but try to avoid Nakhon or Hat Yai, there're some very nasty people in those cities.
