PM fires lottery board

Thailand’s Government Lottery Office board, chaired by Army Commander-in-Chief General Apirat Kongsompong, has been removed by an executive order issued by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in his capacity as head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

The same executive order, which was issued on Wednesday to take immediate effect, appointed Mr. Patchara Anantasilp, director-general of the Excise Department, as the new board chairman.

Three other people were also appointed to the new board, namely Associate Professor Thanawat Pholwichai, General Sakda Niamkham and Pol Lt-Gen Suwat Jaengyodsook.

  • Does this mean we will actually see a return to the 80thb lottery ticket instead of whatever the vendor decides to charge. Maybe it's about time the lottery was taken away from these sidewalk thieves

He will need more than luck if he is going after Army Commander-in-Chief General Apirat Kongsompong, and some of his "fringe benefits"!

Well that's the end of Prayuth being the next PM then given Apirat's connections. Still all helps to get both sides of the trough antagonised possibly.

The Apprentice ....

I guess his luck ran out

But..but..but... "I charge 100 Baht because these are special lucky numbers"

Oh dear, I thought it was going to be about the 'election' outcome & the formation of a 'new' government.

I agree fully - the hawkers on the streets and in the local markets hawking the tickets for whatever price the market will bear should be abolished.  A couple weeks ago I bought my first (and last) Thai lottery tickets - the price was clearly indicated as 80 baht yet I was forced to pay 100 baht.  What recourse is available?  My Thai wife seemed to think this is acceptable!

I am happy to pay 100 baht per ticket because I know the extra 20 baht that goes to the ticket vendor makes a huge difference in the life of the ticket seller...The extra 20 baht per ticket helps the ticket seller have a decent life which is a guaranteed winner...

He's such a bad loser!

Is this the same as the little newly delegated senate seat holders not wanting Prawit anywhere near the newly formed government if they are going to support the junta backed PPP party? Could it be a masking of the military by Prayuth to make him look better? It is not as it appears and I don't think Apirat is on the outside of them but is one of them that is the hard ball heavy weight for throwing military punishment at whom ever deserves it. Prawit is the over lord.

Wht has he fired them? Because his personal initiative to control the price, one of his much-publicised "successes", didn't actually work, maybe?

I wonder if he'll be issuing instructions to fire all Phuket beach chair operators next?

What the hell is the head of the army doing sitting on the national lottery board?

Not much to do at the army. His recruits are tending to his chickens, so he got lots of spare time.

Do you really need to ask.

Have a look at all heads of everything in Thailand, all military or police generals, all of them!

It's the trough.

The real scam is that other places can sell cheaper because they pay less.

In a real country you buy the tickets as a vendor, all of them at the same price and everyone sells at the same price. Then they get a sales commission and a cut of the winnings of each ticket.

So simple, so transparent.

But the whole thai lottery ticket benefits big resellers that rip off the small vendors ????

Get rid of the middleman.

It's starting to heat up in the kitchen.

Politicians with "special" connections are refusing to join Prayuth's coalition unless Prawit is shown the door and now Prayuth is taking pot shots at the also well connected army chief Apirat.

Self destruct in 5....4....3....2.....

A good move by Khun Prayut Chan O Cha. He obviously see's reason to make this change.

What nonsense .....  but would make for a good movie.

I guess Prayut's mates were not winning enough.

Completely illegal, always give 80 baht cash, it must be the dumbest and worst value lottery in the world. If I bother i do the illegal one, at least you can pick your numbers without hunting for them

You were not forced, you accepted the price, as you can decide if you buy it or not. Your Thai wife might know, how much these lottery vendors make in a day, and therefore accept it.

Both would come under ‘lotteries’
