1 Year Marriage Visa Extension whilst on a Tourist Visa!?

Featured Replies

I was under the impression that you must first obtain a Non 'O' Visa at a neighbouring country before applying for the 1 year Marriage Visa extension at immigration. However I have just seen this stating that as long as you meet the requirements of both the Non 'O' and Marriage Visa, you can apply whilst on a Visa exemption stamp or tourist visa at the Immigration office in Thailand. image.png.0e86075214d02ebfd0a679417ed1ef6f.pngDoes anyone shed any light on this as it sounds too good to be true?

Yes, you can apply for s non ‘O’ visa in-country as a prerequisite to an extension of stay (“1 year marriage visa”).

You will need need at least 15 (maybe 21) days of your tourist entry remaining when you apply, and have at least 400K in the bank or income of at least 40K pm,

Some false info plus they are calling an extension of stay based upon marriage a visa which it is not.

You can apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration with a 30 day visa exempt entry based upon qualifying for an extension based upon marriage. General requirement are here: https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_79

To apply for the visa you must submit all the same document and etc (photos in around the house for example) to apply for the visa that are needed for the extension of stay application. That means the same documents have to be submitted twice.

My wife went to Chaeng Watthana yesterday to extend her Non-ED. We got married in March (I'm Thai) and she asked the officer if she can extend her stay based on marriage the next time. The officer said it's possible and no problem as long as you have 21 days left on the stamp. He said, just go to counter 'L' and they will assist. I was also surprised when I heard that because it's very convenient.

Thanks guys, I'm not worried about the requirements for the Marriage Visa, however I believe the NON 'O'  financial requirements is 100,000 Baht in a Thai account for at least 6 months rather than the 400k for at least 2 months. Would I still be required to meet the 100k for at least 6 months requirement?

Not to apply for it at immigration and most Thai embassies and consulates. You can get a single entry non-o visa in Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos with no financial proof.

To apply for the visa at immigration the 400k baht only has to be in the bank on the date you apply and then 2 months for the extension.
