Thailand not on US watch list on currency manipulation

BANGKOK, 30 May 2019 (NNT) - The United States Treasury has published a watch list of countries with currency manipulation in order to hopefully gain a trade advantage with the United States and Thailand is not included in the watch list. However, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) stated that it is still necessary to closely monitor the situation because the United States has adjusted the rules for listing trading partner countries and the global trade is worrisome.

Path of new Govt still unclear

BANGKOK, 30 May 2019 (NNT) - The Chartthaipattana Party announced that it has yet to accept an invitation from the Palang Pracharath Party to join its political alliance. The Chartthaipattana Party will call a meeting of its executive members on Friday (May 31). The party insisted that it will choose to be an independent opposition if the next coalition government refuses to carry out the party’s policies.

Thai second quarter growth pace seen faster than Q1 - ministry

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's economy is expected to grow at a faster pace in the second quarter than in the first three months of the year as domestic consumption continues to increase and tourism improves, a finance ministry official said on Thursday.

Teen suicides rose 13% in three months after Netflix show released

The number of teenagers who took their own lives rose significantly after a popular Netflix series, criticised for its graphic depiction of a 17-year-old character taking her own life was broadcast, a study has said.

‘Furious aunts’ fined Bt12,000 each, handed suspended jail terms

The two so-called “furious aunts” were handed a suspended jail term, on top of a fine of Bt12,000 each, for taking a hammer to a car blocking the gate of their home in Bangkok’s Prawet district last year.

Govt deficit grows

Thailand’s fiscal budget deficit rose 12.7 per cent in the first seven months of the current fiscal year (October 2018 to April 2019) to Bt619.88 billion, from Bt549.9 billion in the same period last year, according to Lavaron Sangsnit, Director–General of the Fiscal Policy Office and Ministry of Finance’s Spokesperson.
