Long-lost footage of a Beatles performance is to be shown for the first time in more than 50 years.

The Fab Four’s appearance on Top of the Pops in the summer of 1966 was thought to have been lost to history before the collector David Chandler handed over a series of 8mm film reels.

Chandler gave the haul to Kaleidoscope, a group that specialises in recovering video and TV shows.

Experts remastered the footage and enhanced the sound of the clip, featuring 92 seconds of the Beatles performing Paperback Writer.

Does anyone really care about the Beatles anymore?

I lost interest when they went full on druggy music as in Sgt Pepper's.

Loved the early stuff though. When I hear a Beatles song these days on the radio it's almost inevitably the era that I don't like.

The Stones stayed true to their origins and are still going strong. I watched "Stoned" last night- about Brian Jones. Not a happy ending.

Seriously? We're supposed to get excited about less than 2 minutes of a song? Watch Hard Day's night and get full songs, or go on U Tube.

And they are not live in this clip....miming to the track.

But I agree that H D N was a great film, so witty and entertaining for that time.

I have the DVD and watched it a while back. Still as good as when it came out. The Beatles at their best, before drugs did them in.
