Can anyone please tell me the cost of getting a "Residence Certificate in Thailand" from the Immigration Department? The one that is needed for driving licences, bank accounts etc. I can find the form on their website, but not the cost. Also how long does it take?

I got mine from the Town Hall, ask the Junta, they will type the letter and you call back the next day..

No cost at all, need to take someone that knows you, or your house Blue book or house owner where you live..

I used the Town Hall for both getting my 1st Licence and my 5yr licence, and well as buying my car

The fee will depend on which office you get it from.

Samui 500 Baht.

Ah, famous Samui. I’ve read a few interesting stories in this forum about the Samui immigration office. So they haven’t cleaned up their act yet, it seems.

Enjoy the Bordaux Maestro.

Enjoy your new life in Khon Kaen! Samui Immigration will be sorry to see you go.

Talking about Bordeaux, I just checked my cellar and saw that I have another six bottles of that plonk to go through.

Actually, this one may be better: it says “Supérieur” on the label. I shall find out tonight.

I don't recollect needing the letter for renewing my licence.

The old licence suffice.

It was only needed when I changed my address.

Buying/selling a car is another matter.

One letter should suffice where you are changing vehicles at the same office.

The form is provided free of charge and only takes about 10min. The great part is you can download the form from ThaiVisa download section and have it all filled-in prior to going to any immigration office. Be sure to take your passport with you.

That’s right, retiredusn. Cruncher, here’s the link, courtesy of ThaiVisa (topic “Thai Immigration Application Forms” pinned at the top of this forum). Click on the button “Download File”. The form is two pages. Make sure to print it on one sheet of paper, front and back.

I recently got my five year liscense. However, they specificly required either a work permit, letter of residence from immigration, or letter of residence from your own embassy.

I was under the impression that all you needed was your old liscense & passport, however, they were adamant that you have to have one of the above.

Cheers,

Soundman.
