Do thais need a transit visa for the USA if just transferring in the airport

I was reading the American web site for thais going through the USA little confusing.

any one have experience with thais just transiting through the airport flying from Bangkok then to Canada 

but the connection air port would be in the states 

thx in advance

If she stays in the secure area no visa is required.

I'd recheck before accepting this answer as gospel. 

 

May have been true at one time.  May still be true.  But I think anyone flying into the USA is subject to visa scrutiny ever since 9/11, the shoe bomber and the underwear bomber.  The theory being that they can take down an airplane long before they get to a secure area.

Indeed the previous answer is incorrect, they need a transfer visa as there's are no sterile transit facilities in the US, the IATA Visa Database confirms this, as does the link provided by OJAS.

Worked through the IATA link that @theoldgit provided and following to the "TWOV" USA site.

Very clear that a transit visa is required. What a hassle (interview!).

Absolutely avoid the US for transit and no need from Bangkok to Canada.
