How many Immigration offices request this?  What percent?  Certainly not all.  I remember reading one long term poster asking this very question in 2003.

It appears the only time you find out the answer to your question is when you actually go to immigration in need of any service. In my case, I assumed because I was such a long term resident that I never had to do it, and I travel abroad often, and was surprised that I had to pay the fine in order to get the service I was after, which was a verification of residence I needed to renew my drivers license.

So, it's basically a booby-trap situation. You only get nailed when you show up. Evidently others had to pay the fine when renewing their extension, and other stories like this.

By now shouldn't we have an official TV thread on on line TM30 reporting?

There are several, unfortunately, but one good one for using the online system.

Thread management (editing, consolidation, use of stickies, etc) can be a plus, but it requires editors.

Thanks mate, I'll get my lady to try it out. But my problem is that I don't know when we should start using it as I am out of town about 8 weeks a year, and I got all my extensions and 90 days reports (on line too) done without a glitch. I (my wife) did my initial TM 30 2 years ago when returning from overseas.

Really depends on your tolerance for abuse (here mostly from overly pedantic members), but some follow the middle path and only plan to file within 24 hours after their most recent arrival, and prior to making a trip to Immigration for services. Assuming your wife, or lady, is your Housemaster, maybe just prepare a mail-in package, then add the TM6 details once you get back home from the airport and mail it in that day, or the next.

This style can leave one exposed, if only ever so slightly, to sweeps and fines.

TE will do the 90 day report for you, but not the TM30.

That said, after I was blindsided by the news that CW had suddenly decided to require the TM30, TE was still able to do my 90 day report for me last week even though I had yet to obtain a TM30 receipt.
Yes, it seems very arbitrary whether CW ask for a TM30 or not.
