Can anyone relieve some of my fears? (staying in Thailand until September).

Hi,

So here is some background information on my situation

- British citizen living abroad for the last few years

- Traveled to Thailand from United States, arriving on May 12

- Got the 30 day visa exemption stamp on my passport, which will expire in a few days

- Brought my pet dog with me

- Run my own startup, I'm currently living off our funding, the startup does not have income yet, was looking into the possibility of settling in Thailand as I thought living costs would be lower

Because of the visa hassles (I didn't get a chance to go to the UK before I left the US to sort out a proper visa) - I've decided it would be better to fly back to the UK and work from there but realized that I need to get a rabies blood test for my dog and wait 3 months before we can fly back.

I was going tomorrow to get a 30 day extension and I'll find a vet to get the blood work done for the dog as quickly as possible but it means that I have to stay in Thailand until September. I arranged flights to Singapore when leaving the US for next month just in case they asked me if I had departing flights. Just wondering if it would be possible for me to do a small holiday somewhere for a few days and re-enter. My nightmare scenario is being refused re-entry and the hassle of getting my dog out of the country...

You should apply for the 30 day extension as soon as possible, don't leave it until the last day in case of a complication.

You then have two options;

A border run to obtain another 30 day Visa exempt entry for 30 days, which can be extended for another 30 days, OR apply for a Tourist Visa at a nearby Consulate, (possibly in Singapore) giving a 60 day entry, that can be extended for another 30 days.

I assume you have someone to care for the dog whilst away for a few days.

Thanks for the reply, I've got 6 days for the renewal so I'll try and get it done tomorrow.

As I mentioned, I have flights to Singapore and according to this, I can get it done at the Thai consulate so I will take that trip to get a tourist visa.

but it says here the maximum is 60 days - can I really extend by another 30 days? That would take me beyond the required time which would be a real relief!

@elliss did your parents never teach you that if you have nothing good to say, it's best to keep quiet?

@DrJack54 even with my limited experience of this region, I know it's possible so thanks for the utterly useless advice.

Yes, you can extend the 60 day entry from a Tourist Visa by another 30 days = 90 days.
