Future Forward party claims being offered up to 120m baht for each vote for PM

Featured Replies

when they were campaigning the elections, one party offered everyone in my village 200 baht to come and listen to their campaign speech.

unsurprisingly nearly the whole village turned out

Being a relatively small village and the huge turnout, i cannot even begin to imagine what the costs would of amounted to when factoring in all the other villages in the district

They had obviously arranged everything with the head of the village and ensured everyone knew about their arrival and the incentive

It is obvious that even on a district scale the rewards are huge

Another candidate turned up and had an audience of about 6 people

where did they receive such backing?

Corruption is so ingrained into this society i don't ever see it changing in my lifetime

So a rigged election turned into an auction

False news - there are not many Thais would turn down a bribe of one million baht; there are NO politicians who would turn down a thirty million bribe.

Unless they were offered more from elsewhere eh?

These are interesting claims and, if there is such a thing as a group of Thai politicians who put loyalty to their party/electorate before money, there is hope for the country yet.  On the other hand, if there have been so many such offers, why is no proof offered?

Why is the Election Commission not investigating this?? They did to every spurious minor claim against the opposition parties..... excepting the Junta party of course who were the most obvious!!

Well they got to the Democratic Junta Party that's for sure.

What a crock of lies, can you see any of these desperadoes  turning down between 1 and 4 million USD? They'd sell their granny for less.

If this news is true , and proof is unlikely to be forthcoming , then it seems pretty probable that Phua Thai politicians have also been approached.

Which makes their silence a bit strange.

Sorry sir, those items are for display purposes only, they have already been sold and paid for.

Will this affect the image of the country or is it only naked girls at kilometer markers and rip off tuk tuk drivers that cause damage to the reputation of Thailand?

I was told a couple of months ago by an educated young Thai (totally opposed to the junta) that his friend's father - a Pheua Thai politician - was offered 100 million baht by the party of the Perfect One.

He accepted it - and now works for them.

I believe that the Future Forward politicians are a new breed of idealists and would not sell their soul like this.

At least, I hope not!

Those who didn't report getting an offer probably accepted it. I wonder if the Junta can check if bought votes actually went to the right candidate, they can't really go public and claim a corrupted man is unreliable.

Such high priced bribery can only come from certain sources, naming names & showing real proof can get you a watery grave in Thailand.

We will soon learn which politicians took the bribe and betray his supporters and party. The voting for PM will be a open verbal process according to Reuters.

As it stand today, the pro democracy bloc has 246 while the pro junta has 203 including the Dem. BJT with 51 has not make any decision. The chance for Thanathorn to win will be for some senators to vote with their conscience against Prayut and BJT to support Thanathorn. Snowflake in hell or possibility of an upset? Turn in next episode of the "Race to the Trough".

Do you believe all slurs offered to you by admittedly totally biased people, Thai or not?  If a name was offered why not put it out, at least it would show a change of sides, not that it would prove it was done by bribery.

A new breed of politicians is very similar to a new breed of sewer rats. Try not to let wishful thinking over-ride past experience.

C'mon who on earth would  make an offer  like that except  verbally and probably not by phone  etc a  "quiet  word"

I think I'ld want the cash in my account before I voted.

Duh!

Their leader wasn't (allegedly) offered the bribe. Or do you think their billionaire pays more than that?

Not on a bank account.
Cash in a suitcase.

amazing 90% of politicians worldwide are corrupt and the number is climbing every year anyone with half a brain would stop 250 senators from voting in this Thai fast there is no one in high places that can or will stop it its the greedy are number one

When is  any election anywhere not ? lol

There is some excrement that will hit the fan soon.

If it took only one or two people who under oath could identify the source of such attempts then the  Judiciary would be grossly compromised in investigation outcomes should that point directly to those who are obviously inferred to.

At the same time the fate of the Future Forward Party leader, despite presenting as an apparent serious  challenger in the selection process, is still subject to outcomes of  judicial proceedings and suspension from duty as an MP.

It is not difficult to predict that should  Thanathorn actually win selection as PM then a very rapid decision would emerge from the judiciary wiping him  from any political capacity at all and more. That may yet happen even if he does  not  "win" although it would  probably be politically more circumspect to tolerate the irritation in the interests of "happiness" .

The disqualification of the first horse in what is a two horse  race  would by default  pass the trophy to the runner up.

So given what has already transpired in this  convoluted process the expected outcome will occur regardless.

If there is any benefit it will be that Thais  have demonstrated in very significant  numbers a desire for political transparency.

Now that has been  made very apparent at least gives  hope that although  some  years away it is an improvement on decades of apathy.

Always  has  been right down to pu yai ban level

I really hope he recorded it or they will sue him for 'defamation'. They have NO ethics.

Not rigged always. Just an auction. Promises promises are  bids  for your  vote.

Believable but cough up the hard evidence.

Erm, it does not say he was offered a bribe, just says some were and then mentioned Mr. Anawil Rattanasathaporn

that's a ""he said she said"" no supporting data, only speculations without any foundation

Where's the proof?

Where's the evidence?

In all likelihood events occurred as described here, but without evidence it's just heresay.

Missed opportunity.

C'mon! - we're talking bribes here! - what fool is going the leave a track-record of evidence?

I don't think you would make a smart crook if you think there is going to be proof lying around.

Here we go again, its like never ending cycle of corruption

Have you ever heard of recordings? Although very dangerous for those making and distributing it, a single recording would give a lot more credibility to the claim. I am sure that the average Thai recognizes that some bribery would have taken place, but some of the numbers here are rather hard to believe.
