He also stated that the girl at the 7/11 stated that his passport was too faded.

You miss the point. sfokevin was suggesting that an airport is not the place to get the cheapest possible data plan.

But the OP wasn't looking to be offered the cheapest possible data plan. He wanted the basic Tourist SIM, so that he could add his own data plan. But it is not unknown at the airport for them to pretend that there is no 49 baht SIM. Failing that they try to tell you that it has no data unless you add at least 300 baht to it.

Apart from all that for a 30 day trip, Tourist SIM bundles are very poor value.

Some here write about 30 day Tourist SIM, but there is no such animal. They have data for aeight or fifteen day duration.

So after fifteen days max, you need to buy another bundle, even if you haven't used up the data. Not amusing if you have already spent 599 baht on the SIM.

So much better to buy the 49 baht Tourist SIM( or normal SIM at airport 7/11 if they have them) and to buy a data package that is valid for 30 days.

But the OP is not a tourist and has family in Thailand...... this whole "tourist Sim" malarky does not add up.

Clearly the OP is not an expert on all things SIM related. So he probably doesn't know how to keep an old SIM active.

To get a new SIM on arrival will probably make it a Tourist SIM. Either way, no one wanted to sell him a basic SIM.

No need to get into his personal circumstances just because he wants to buy a basic SIM at the airport and add a cheap data package to it.

The trick is to have 2 SIM cards, one for your home country and one for Thailand. When you add money, add enough to keep each one valid 1 year. Then when you land you just switch out your SIM cards. You don’t have to go to a shop. You can be messaging when the plane comes to a stop, as you’re going through immigration and waiting for your luggage. “Landed!” Haha. I have found that unlimited internet is a must. The 1 or 2 gigabytes data plan is used up in a few days. In Thailand get a “pre-paid” sim. With that, if you don’t fill it, it cancels automatically after a certain time depending on how much money you filled. With a “postpaid’ it doesn’t cancel but goes on forever unless you take action, also a bill gets sent to your address. I can see an advantage of the tourist sim, they have unlimited internet. Otherwise ask at the shop for unlimited internet. If you don’t use the internet while out and about (meaning you don’t use data) then there are lots of 49 baht SIM cards. Let us know if you get one, how it works out, and if you have to top up with more money to last the 3 weeks with calling and data. Once you get a 49 baht SIM card, you will have a plan that comes with it but you can change to another plan by calling a number or at the shop. And you can top it up to keep it valid long enough for your next trip. Good luck.  http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/package/prepaid?ln=en

So silly comments about being a cheap charlie are simply uncalled for.

It would actually be a bit stupid to buy a Tourist SIM bundle lasting eight to fifteen days for a thirty day trip.

I may be thrifty but Im not cheap. Actually I usually have a good long laugh at all the fat beer bellys in the sports bars paying 150 baht for a bottle of beer while Im next door outside the 711 drinking EXACTLY the same beer for 25 .

buy a sim at 7-11 and a top off card with a code. put the sim in and enter your code. not a big deal really for any one with half a brain.

your phone number is good for two years. even with a zero balance. so next trip no need to get new SIM.

I woul like to see that. Every sim I know of has a maximum of 365 days validity if you keep topping them up.

Maybe there was a special promotion sim with 2 years but it certainly isn't standard.

So do you have half a brain? What is a "top off code"?

Maybe someone with a whole brain would have included the instructions for applying a thirty day data package at a reasonable price. Not just applying a 'top off code' to a 7-11 bought SIM.

But then you probably didn't read about the OP's experience at the 7-11 either.

Buying internet for phone 1 month ? is the topic.

What is it about this thread that brings out the worst in people?

Even the OP is doing his best to alienate his fellow members.
