Popular Post sawadee1947
The next act in the Brexit drama has begun. A spectacle that is hard to beat for absurdity and is inexorably striving for its tragic climax. Only four and a half months later, the extended deadline for Britain's EU exit expires. A historic break is imminent. But the candidates for the succession of Prime Minister Theresa May outdo each other with unsustainable promises. British and continental Europeans have to adjust to violent political and economic upheavals. There will be talk at the Summit of EU Heads of State and Government Thursday and Friday. Where did the proverbial British pragmatism go? The country, which claims to be the oldest democracy in the world, shows how far the political structural change can mislead entire societies. It's a shame, really. A reasonable government and a government-ready opposition would come up with realistic plans for the day after Day X in this situation. Because this is now the likely scenario: on October 31, Britain will leave the EU without an agreement in force. A situation that the British Parliament has excluded by majority, but which nevertheless threatens to materialize. 2
