BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's central bank is expected to keep its benchmark policy rate steady on Wednesday for a fourth straight meeting, a Reuters poll showed, despite slowing growth and the way many Asian central banks have shifted toward easing policy.

Over 200,000 uni seats empty despite TCAS being successful

THOUGH all five rounds of the 2019 Thai University Central Admission System (TCAS) have been “highly successful”, more than 200,000 seats are still vacant, reflecting a serious need for Thai universities to improve, Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) chairman Suchatvee Suwansawat said on Sunday.

Deadly construction collapse mounts to 28

 

The death toll from the building collapse in Sihanoukville has risen to 28 as of Monday evening, a senior police officer said. Four more bodies were found under the rubble. Two were found dead while two were miraculously pulled out alive.

Survivors found two days after deadly building collapse

 

Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province – As rescue teams began wrapping up their efforts here yesterday, hundreds of onlookers watched in amazement as two more victims of the deadly building collapse were found buried alive under the rubble. At about 4pm, a frenzy of movement overtook the rescue teams as they located the victims, who had been buried alive for more than two days.

Chinese and Cambodian to be sent to court over deadly building collapse

 

Preah Sihanouk provincial police will send four people arrested in connection with the construction of the collapsed building to the provincial court today as rescue work goes on. Provincial police chief Major General Chuon Narin said today that police will send Chen Kun, a Chinese national who leased the land for construction, Deng Xing Gui, a building contractor, Gao Yu, a concrete wall contractor, and Nhek Huy, a Cambodian who owned the land to the provincial court today.

Sihanoukville governor resigns following deadly building collapse

 

After the collapse of a seven-storey building in Sihanoukville that has claimed the lives of dozens of people, Prime Minister Hun Sen has accepted the resignation of Preah Sihanouk provincial Governor Yun Min. The Chinese-owned building collapsed in the early morning of Saturday, leaving scores dead and injured. Rescue workers have continued to locate victims and they suspect more are still buried beneath the debris. The death toll rose to 28 yesterday, according to rescue workers.

Cambodia says special economic zone does not transship goods to U.S. to dodge tariffs

 

PHNOM PENH, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Companies in Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) in Cambodia have not transshipped products to the United States to avoid tariffs, the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce said in a statement released on Sunday.
