Latest Honda models on show in Bangkok

Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co Ltd is exhibiting eight models, including three launched this year, at the Fast Auto Show Thailand in Bangkok.

 

The new models are the Honda Accord, Honda BR-V and Honda HR-V with a new interior colour.

 

The exhibition and sale of new and used cars from leading auto runs Wednesday through Sunday (June 30) at BITEC in Bang Na.

 

The Accord, a premium sports sedan that fits customers’ different lifestyle needs, offers advanced technologies and is available with two power options.

 

The Accord Turbo EL at Bt1.475 million comes with a 1.5-litre Di VTEC turbo engine. It is highly responsive with maximum torque of 243 Newton-metres produced by Honda’s advanced Direct Injection, with instant response from the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). 

 

The powerful turbo engine offers better performance than the 2.4-litre engine of the previous generation, as well as impressive fuel efficiency of 16.4 kilometres per litre, again better than the previous two-litre engine. 

 

In addition, the turbo engine is environmentally friendly and E85-compatible.

 

The Accord Hybrid comes with a Sport Hybrid Intelligent Multi- Mode Drive (i-MMD) System with a two-litre Atkinson Cycle DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder, 16-valve engine with two electric motors, E-CVT, and a lithium-ion battery. 

 

The Hybrid is available as a Hybrid fo Bt1.639 million and a Hybrid Tech for Bt1.799 million.

Importing a Civic SI that will cost over 2 million baht or investing billions of baht just to assemble a few Honda Pilots a year isn't worth it because people keep buying pickup trucks here.

70 million population  where everyone loves cars is small market?

 

People keep buying pick ups because sedan line ups are boring ????

 

Australia with only 20 million population has more choice than here

Market has nothing to do with population.

 

In 2018, Australians bought 1,153,111 vehicles. Whereas Thais bought 1,039,158 vehicles, half of which are purely pick-up trucks, not counting SUVs that are based on those pick-up trucks, or cross-overs. Not going to bother searching this one up as we all already know 50% of the Australian car market are not made up of Hiluxes and D-maxes.

 

There are still over 30% taxes on regular cars whereas pick-up trucks are taxed much less. The government has always incentivized people to buy pick-up trucks instead of cars.

 

Consumer preferences also lean more towards pick-up trucks which Honda has no part in, thus less profit than Isuzu and Toyota which could've been used to offer a more competitive sedan/hatchback line-up to cater to the 50 people each month buying an Accord vs. ten thousand each month for Toyota's pick-up truck.

 

They tried offering more interesting things but people just don't buy them, it's unprofitable. 2-door Civics? Gone because Thais want 4 doors. V6 Accord? Gone because of harsh taxes, 2008 Accord had a V6 version available for 2.9 million baht and it was fully assembled here. In fact, the V6 Accord continued to be assembled in Thailand until 2018 which served the Australian market. Same thing with the 2009 Mondeo, it was assembled in Thailand but not sold. Can't import it for free either, it still counts as an import despite being assembled here.

Most car colours are boring to suit the people who buy them. Although I notice Nissan March has a French Racing blue type colour. Very few orange or ....... colours. Subaru maybe?

While honda cars are getting better by the year those models are getting older and less attractive ( to put it mildly) as the years and motor shows goes by, time for newer younger models please, (believe it or not some people goes to this shows for the eye candies only)...

Agree.  Jazz and City need a refresh. HR-V should have been refreshed a lot more this year than it was.  At least the truly ancient Accord was finally given a makeover after having the same body style for at least 10 years.
